There are very few insurance companies with name recognition participating in exchanges in many states which limits options to companies that are questionably even solvent. There are also some state exchanges that are offering insurance that carved out things like elective surgery and diagnostics

A lot of people don’t realize how much of a monthly premium is covered by their employer. That is why COBRA coverage is usually thousands of dollars per month for the same coverage that was a 100-300 per pay period while working. ACA subsides are designed to act like the employer contribution.

The reality that her kids qualify for subsides to lower coverage is a little suspect; but they are all adults so parent’s income wouldn’t play into eligibility.

The ACA is not a low income program. It is an option for people who are not eligible for employer sponsored group health coverage to buy insurance (the only option if pre-existing conditions exist). Small business owners, farm owners, 1099 contract employees use the ACA.

Every reporter needs to ask, “what advice do you have for small business owners, farm owners, employees receiving a 1099,” when these fools start their talking points.

It has happened, successfully, in some states. But if you pointed the GOP to look at Massachusetts as a model (even though it was Romney in the Governor’s mansion at the time), they would scream some combo of “socialism, far-left lunatic, libertard, etc”

Equally important is that marketplace plans have to cover the basic services that most people expect plans to cover. My concern is that the GOP is going to push insurers to offer plans that carve out elective surgeries, diagnostics, etc; plans that offer low premiums but will bankrupt families.

For as much as they want to appear to be the side of small business owners, farmers, ‘gig’ economy 1099 workers, making health insurance affordable for these people who are not eligible for employer sponsored group plans us apparently not a priority.
