I'm going to be in the car for 14 hours tomorrow. Anyone have some #audiobook recommendations? For fiction, I tend to prefer things that come out OK in the end.

23.02.2026 03:27 β π 3 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0You probably guessed where this is going: the entire "anti-woke moral panic of the last five years is an absolutely *textbook* example of how horrors happen. It was never going to stop with bathrooms or sports or HR policies.
22.02.2026 20:30 β π 840 π 128 π¬ 2 π 1Standing up to the small stuff might put you at odds w/ social trends. It might cause friction between you & your peers. It might threaten your employment prospects. It will be *socially uncomfortable*.
That's why the train gets going: by the time it's socially acceptable to say No, it's too late.
This thread is great, but this piece sticks out. When trying to prevent another βnever againβ moment, we have to push back early, on the small things, when itβs not yet cool, still cringe even. If we wait until the tanks are already rolling, the detention facilities full, then itβs too late.

Part of why I am insistent that public libraries must be expanded is because they can offer us a foundation for unleashing creativity and for nurturing imagination. This is an affirmative project at a time when we desperately need to be FOR things and not just against them.
21.02.2026 18:00 β π 1023 π 288 π¬ 8 π 0And my parents-in-law still think antivax is the correct route, even though their son nearly died because of their ridiculous beliefs. My MIL is just young enough to not have heard about all the death and disabilities that people not even a decade older than her do remember. Infuriating.
22.02.2026 19:41 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0You would think it should count.
My in-laws are anti-vax & my brother-in-law ended up in a kid hospital for months w/ tetanus. There were some court things with CPS after that, but they lived in one of the states with no exemptions & still maintained custody. My spouse got vaxxed ASAP as an adult.
Dispatch is fun, and the episodic nature works really well for bite-sized chunk of play! My spouse did like 1 episode after work and it worked super well. Also it's pretty quick even if you do like I did and binge it all. I have some issues w/some of it, especially mean-spirited jokes, but it's fun.

I know so many people for whom "only $2,000" would be genuinely life-altering. Maybe not forever, but for long enough.

Thatβs 39 people who have died on ICEβs watch during Trumpβs second term.
We cannot grow numb to this. There must be immediate oversight and accountability.
I didn't watch many movies in the theaters and I didn't really like the Matrix because I'm weird, but I absolutely love this set of images and that is why I'm sharing this.

18.02.2026 05:22 β π 172 π 146 π¬ 1 π 4My guess is that the goal here is not only to punish the children for turning more people against ICE/DHS, but also to make news outlets think twice about reporting on kids' suffering at the hands of ICE/DHS, out of concern that doing so might lead to retaliation against the kids.
