I'm going to be in the car for 14 hours tomorrow. Anyone have some #audiobook recommendations? For fiction, I tend to prefer things that come out OK in the end.

You probably guessed where this is going: the entire "anti-woke moral panic of the last five years is an absolutely *textbook* example of how horrors happen. It was never going to stop with bathrooms or sports or HR policies.

Standing up to the small stuff might put you at odds w/ social trends. It might cause friction between you & your peers. It might threaten your employment prospects. It will be *socially uncomfortable*.

That's why the train gets going: by the time it's socially acceptable to say No, it's too late.

This thread is great, but this piece sticks out. When trying to prevent another β€œnever again” moment, we have to push back early, on the small things, when it’s not yet cool, still cringe even. If we wait until the tanks are already rolling, the detention facilities full, then it’s too late.

The hidden ICE blueprint that should horrify every American | Will Bunch An internal Department of Homeland Security document shows how ICE plans to cram thousands of detained human beings inside a Georgia warehouse.

What's more shocking than ICE's plan to cram as many 8,500 humans into massive, soul-crushing warehouses?

Seeing the actual DHS floor plan that echoes slavery ships and history's worst gulags with no rec space but a gun range for guards

Part of why I am insistent that public libraries must be expanded is because they can offer us a foundation for unleashing creativity and for nurturing imagination. This is an affirmative project at a time when we desperately need to be FOR things and not just against them.

And my parents-in-law still think antivax is the correct route, even though their son nearly died because of their ridiculous beliefs. My MIL is just young enough to not have heard about all the death and disabilities that people not even a decade older than her do remember. Infuriating.

You would think it should count.

My in-laws are anti-vax & my brother-in-law ended up in a kid hospital for months w/ tetanus. There were some court things with CPS after that, but they lived in one of the states with no exemptions & still maintained custody. My spouse got vaxxed ASAP as an adult.

Dispatch is fun, and the episodic nature works really well for bite-sized chunk of play! My spouse did like 1 episode after work and it worked super well. Also it's pretty quick even if you do like I did and binge it all. I have some issues w/some of it, especially mean-spirited jokes, but it's fun.

So, while thinking about lunar New Year stuff, I was reminded that due to the timing of the lunar new year, my dad (1938), my mom (January 1951, so still lunar year 1950), and me (1986) were all born in years of the tiger. 🐯

Fascism is here and yet we insist on continuing to make things. Keep creating. It's so important. Do not let the fascists colonize your imagination or curtail your creativity.

I know so many people for whom "only $2,000" would be genuinely life-altering. Maybe not forever, but for long enough.

Last night, I was notified that another person has died in ICE custody.

That’s 39 people who have died on ICE’s watch during Trump’s second term.

We cannot grow numb to this. There must be immediate oversight and accountability.

I will admit i haven't yet looked at what he actually said, so all I've heard is that he's not running for the legislature. My initial reaction is that he wants to try to jump to the governor's mansion, since he does have name recognition...

My guess is that the goal here is not only to punish the children for turning more people against ICE/DHS, but also to make news outlets think twice about reporting on kids' suffering at the hands of ICE/DHS, out of concern that doing so might lead to retaliation against the kids.
