In 2014 Sony sold its waterproof Walkmans in a bottle of water to prove it was really waterproof

Their menu is maddening. Changes often and things you like will disappear forever to be replaced by odd specialty items. The fish burger randomly turned into salmon burger. You can get a burger set with "potato fries" (wedges) or chicken nuggets but not with "french fries" which are normal fries

Mine still does... I typically use the chipotle hot sauce for fries and nuggets.

This is just payback for when LDP leaders were being called "radical right" despite their policies being (let me just check my notes here...) more immigration, more women in the workforce, and uh... Cool Biz I guess?

The cover of Katamari Damacy by L.E. Hall, from Boss Fight Books. It shows a penguin being menaced by a giant sticky ball of tape

But most importantly, I think social media rewards extremism and punishes moderation within each party. You can see this dynamic at work in the response to the Young Republicans’ leaked texts. In the old days, when internal party debates mostly happened in private, it was possible to crack down on Nazis and other extremists. Now, thanks to social media, those debates mostly happen in public, where the opposition can see everything and potentially take advantage of any internal divisions. This makes right-wing leaders extremely reluctant to cultivate the appearance of dissension in the ranks, for fear of joining in a β€œleft wing pile on”:

Sorry you're getting shit on. I wish we (collectively) were better at not forming circular firing squads. Noah Smith (don't @ me people... I know not everyone is a fan) just had a post that also touches on the way social media pushes people to extremism as well. www.noahpinion.blog/p/after-trum...

cute video... but maybe they can lobby the gov to put regular trash cans in public again. Omotesando has some nice compacting ones on the street and I think it helps.

I get the point that's trying to be made here, but it's actually inaccurate. The *MAJORITY* of actual practitioners in the tech industry have a position that is neither of these, it's merely getting drowned out by these two loud positions. The most common belief in the tech industry is simple:

Someone on Twitter replies to me: "meh. buy american or stfu."

Two hours later, in a separate thread, the write: "$30 for a single button-up is ridiculous unless it is decent quality silk."

This two-parter below is exactly why it's hard to make clothes in the United States.

Let's look at how much it costs to produce a button-up shirt in the US. 🧡

The main things required to succeed at pop music:

1.) make catchy music that lots of people want to hear again
2.) get lots of people to hear it

Swift was always good at #1 and now #2 is a self-fulfilling positive feedback loop. She can print money for as long as she wants to do it

lol yeah! It’s the one I thought of immediately because it has an annoying amount of vowels in a row. Gotta find to find consonants with something like three in a row, a double vowel and end it with an ed or similar.

I’ve noticed Japanese construction often opting for untreated wood… it does look pretty nice. I suspect in America that would have had a few coats of varnish and would still look pretty new.
