Mid-festival update: I have tried 6 hot chocolates. I forgot to take pics of the cordyceps spirulina chaga but it was actually pretty good. The strawberry confit is VERY good. The butterscotch caramel orange toffee changed my life and the words to describe how good it was haven't been invented yet

It's like the opening scene of 101 Dalmatians where everyone looks like their dogs except it's me and my cat's microbiome

I generally am tickled that my cat and I are on the same type of medications daily (for allergies) but now I have strep throat three days after she started antibiotics for a UTI and so I'm also on antibiotics and it's starting to feel like maybe this is actually a weird and specific curse

A zoomed-out spreadsheet that shows listed hot chocolates at different locations, with addresses, dietary restrictions that can be accommodated, and descriptions. There are also columns for if Sophie and a blocked out name want them or have already tried them

It's the first (annual?) St. John's Hot Chocolate Festival and the only logical thing to do when faced with 18 specialty hot chocolates that you and your friend want to try at various locations around the city is to make a spreadsheet about it

Every time the garage man tells me he would buy my 17yo honda if I was selling it, I mentally take note that he has just confirmed that I do not need to get a newer car yet

as much as I complain about some scientific names, some of them are very nice. the species name of this jellyfish is "punctata" meaning spotted. that is a good name that soothes me.

museums are cool because the people who work there are like look at this neat thing and you're like wow that is neat and you just do it over and over again until it is time to go

A four-panel comic titled "how to get into nature". In panel 1, a person kneels in the woods, looking down at a red-backed salamander, and the text says "notice a living thing." In panel 2, the text says "notice some other things that live near it," and there's a starflower, springtail, ant, little wood satyr butterfly, and salamander on the leaf litter. In panel 3, covered in creatures, plants, and a colorful starburst, the text says "Notice the connections between them, discover the wider ecosystem, learn about its histories, and find yourself following links from bedrock to stratosphere, between biotic and abiotic, at scales both microbial and massive, until you’re hopelessly overwhelmed by the wonder of it all." In panel 4, the text says "Fall into a daze and let moss engulf you." The person from the first panel is still kneeling in the woods, looking happy as moss slowly engulfs them, and they're saying "This is for the best."

Helping your biologist friends pack for moving always involves the hard questions, like "can you throw out 1m ill-preserved corals in the regular trash" and "but the city requires only clear trash bags, they're definitely going to see it, what do I do with this rotting coral I need to throw out"

In an ideal world, I walk into the exam room, a doctor pops open the frontal bone of my skull like a car hood and then just really gets in there with like a bottle brush or algae scraper or something

At the walk-in clinic today to ask a medical professional to please disassemble my skeleton into its component parts, it would definitely fix my problems, I swear
