Either option was going to cause people to suffer. Why are the 10M people who's premiums are going up more valuable than the 40M people on food stamps?

Its the Senate working as intended. Comfortably insulated from the will of the people.

I think tonight shows why β€œmoderate to win elections” is a real risk

the big divide in the Dem caucus, as many have noted, has been less moderate vs progressive than fight versus don’t fight

but it’s not a coincidence that basically everyone in the β€œdon’t fight” camp is a moderate

a big problem for Democrats in general is that moderation on policy and temperament are pretty strongly correlated

things would be so much better if there were a bunch of politicians who can win swing-state seats and also don't give a fuck about the filibuster

Because every Republican in congress is an oath breaker. They don't act in good faith, can't be trusted at their word, and they don't have your constituent's best interest at heart.

okay, so, with Dems successfully keeping anyone up in 2026 for voting for this turd let's take a look at who's up in 2026 anyway:

1. Cory Booker - apparently involved behind the scenes, constantly looking for bipartisanship. I don't dislike him personally but he doesn't have what we need. Primary.

also, like, the die for pain was cast a year ago. the pain will continue for, at minimum, another three years. every choice now is between only bad options, and people will suffer no matter what choice is made, and senators cannot and should not be immune to that.

what’s remarkable about this is that there are zero winners at all, one of the biggest lose-lose deals I can remember

the Dem cavers will catch incandescent shit for it

the rest of the Dems will catch collateral fury

the big R win is… jacking everyone’s health care costs ahead of midterms

10.11.2025 01:25 β€” πŸ‘ 1321    πŸ” 293    πŸ’¬ 23    πŸ“Œ 13

if the Democrats are willing to accept this deal, in particular, i don't think a single Senator should make it through their primary. this just makes health inequity worse and lets Trump send out checks with his name on them!

They want to let Trump claim he's giving people checks for their healthcare, for a policy that won't even work. Its stupid and self defeating from both a policy and a politics level.

09.11.2025 22:21 β€” πŸ‘ 51    πŸ” 1    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

They're literally giving him a win, letting him claim that he's giving people money, for a stupid policy that won't even work. Any Dems who go along with this are utterly incompetent and deserve to be taken out to pasture.

I think its fine to let the Republicans have what they want eventually. Dems raised the salience on the ACA premium hikes and can kill them on it over the next year. But right now seems like a stupid time to fold.

09.11.2025 19:32 β€” πŸ‘ 8    πŸ” 2    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

People need to touch the stove. Dems forcing Republicans to pull their hands off the stove is counterproductive.

Trump is currently digging himself into a hole by going to court over SNAP. They're flailing, talking about ending the filibuster, his poll numbers are tanking. Dems should let it ride for the time being.

Ipsos finds Trump’s approval rating is decreasing almost entirely because of anti-incumbent economic anxiety. Approval rating among people who say the economy is the # 1 issue is -24pts since Jan. It’s stable for people who index on all other issues www.ipsos.com/en-us/lesson...

I think we'd have to be heavy handed to make it happen. Censoring fascist views in media and online, shutting down/rehabilitating Fox, stripping twitter from Elon (and neutering the billionaire class broadly). Otherwise, Fuentes is the future of the GOP, and there won't be room for a party split.

Trump could probably say 'The government's open because I say it is.' and get away with it. The shutdown's revealed that they don't have the will to do this. That's good, because doing half-measures on authoritarianism is just going to get them tossed out.

Idk, I don't think supporting Trump's tariffs (which are underwater by double digits nationally) would be a good fit for a district on the Canadian border.

Eventually, we will get a real recession under a Democratic president. If one party is run by fascists, they will eventually find their opening.

By supporting Trump's very unpopular tariffs in a district on the Canadian border, Golden 'decided to lose'.
