I don’t imagine I myself will ever be posting charts, but one never knows. I’ll keep checking the alt text on others’ tho, because charts LOOK so convincing, even if (maybe because) I can’t understand them 🀣

I suspect you’re right: this is my non-chart brain squinting at little lines on my phone trying to interpret what ppl have posted as a β€œthis chart speaks for itself” illustration

Not throwing these posters in this thread under bus because they clearly tried! I’m Just genuinely confused about alt text and chart relationships and these illustrate my question

I would buy that except I’ve see some really detailed alt texts of charts that say almost everything except the conclusion!! Or have all the words that are on the chart but not explain the points on the chart - I think a lot of chart ppl are trying?

07.12.2025 13:03 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I would love it but alt texts of charts I’ve seen never seems to include the conclusion - so I thought perhaps there was some reason not to I didn’t understand

trying to fit in here on bsky, so I’m quote replying with an attempt to build a new take on a phrase in the hopes of finding some dopamine likes

it’s probably my pro-text anti-math biases, but just knowing the x and y axis and some of the words on the chart (which are often too tiny to see) doesn’t help me figure out the data or conclusion the chart illustrates

A question I have about alt text is for chart images.

Is it acceptable for alt texts to not just describe the charts but to include an interpretation of what I am supposed to understand from seeing the chart?

the same would be true here in the US: I know part of what drew me to law school was the desire to be part of the government, a patriotism of sorts (that this last year has felt like a knife in the chest, not gonna lie)

I think the money is only part of it. It seems another explanation might be that ppl who spend several years studying the law intensely would want to be involved in the making and changing of those laws.

Money Doesn't Buy Elections. It Does Something Worse. Campaign ads barely move the needle. The real influence is hiding in plain sight.

Study after study shows campaign ads barely move the needle. So where does money’s real power come from? I ranked the five ways money corrupts politicsβ€”from least to most corrosive. What I’ve learned from 15 years of tracking political money:

Annnnd I just realized I spent a whole skeet replyguy defending my use of labelers and making it about me but I guess I never said I was sane or good at the social media myself

I like some of the lists because it’s more info but i don’t auto block based on them. it’s more like context/more to read. I like more to read, apparently. Could I be reading actual
books? Sure, maybe, but then I’d miss you

I spend so much time verifying everything now from art to cited sources to photos to historical references to citations to quotes to legal and medical information that it's really hard to fathom how much work AI has collectively added to the world, not reduced

Is anyone aware of anyone appealing a plea deal or other guilty verdict entered under one of the improperly appointed US Attorneys? Literally asking for a friend. (Although not one directly affected.)

Hot take: metaphors are where the actual heavy conceptual lifting takes place in most theories, models, ideas, and arguments. Treating them as aesthetic literary devices makes people less capable as readers.

they should have a separate color of the year for people who haven’t lost the will to live

Yes AND! non-librarians and non-academics don’t even have access to the databases or skill sets or contacts that would be required for truly authenticating and fact checking!

Was recently watching Stranger Things and recollecting how hospital settings used to have cool ass stripes and colors on the walls as a feature. This all white environment has got to do something to the psyche and it can’t be great? Or is it calming somehow?

Yes pls because my kids were into MLP reboots and fell off/grew out of right around Equestria Girls, so I only knew the face values of these shows!

The greatest trick the devil ever pulled is convincing people that "politics" is somehow unrelated to the real world and people's real lives.
