Scientific fraud through paper mills and targeted journals is already occurring at scale. It is organized, orchestrated, and rapidly growing, far outpacing legitimate science

Opinion | This Attack on a Federal Judge Is Preposterous

The Bondi DOJ's complaint misrepresents Judge Boasberg's comments and misapplies the relevant law and rules. "Worse, it is a dangerous escalation in a mounting list of assaults by the current administration on the legitimacy of the federal courts." [Nancy Gertner and @stevevladeck.bsky.social]

These young people know constitutional rights violations when they see them & how to respond to them very publicly. Too bad federal House and Senate members--who actually took an oath to defend those very rights--are either actively cheering such violations or simply whining about them fecklessly.

Another excellent piece by my colleague @foxmike90.bsky.social on the institutional incentives prosecutors have to engage in de facto witness bribery, thus trashing anything resembling "justice under law."

β€œWe were getting more .. into R&B,”
said Frey, β€œand we wanted to make something with a real β€˜get-down’ feel to it. Don came up with the title, and we built everything around that mood β€” sexy, dangerous, a little eerie.”

one thing that keeps happening is Trump taking major steps which impose large, often asymmetric costs on American business, and American business doing fucking nothing in response

Authoritarians are attacking universities. Here's how it's going at one public school. I'm publicly documenting an event timeline to help bring order to the chaotic nature of events and help other schools plan the responses they are likely going to need.

This is simply wrong on the facts. Whatever America’s problems might be, we have had, until this year, an extremely strong interest group system. Some might argue TOO strong in many cases! The frustration is that now, at the hour we need it most, many sections of it are simply caving.

Why ICE Is Spying on U.S. Citizens’ Medical Data ICE’s misuse of medical claims data not only threatens undocumented migrants but also, by eroding trust in the public health system, endangers all Americans.

Meant to flag this earlier: my joint piece with Dr. Jeffrey Singer on how #ICE access to medical and insurance claims databases could be used not just against migrants, but the rest of us as well...along with the chilling effect on those avoiding medical care for fear of arrest:
