Small town VT No Kings had over 300 people show up. Every speaker mentioned Palestine. Tents set up to plug people into mutual aid, immigration defense, and Palestinian liberation. I also handed out a few copies of Let This Radicalize You for free to people who wanted to learn more about organizing.

I’m actually on track to read about 20 more books than last year, though I’d attribute that to more intentionally engaging in the protection of my mental and emotional space that reading often offers. So I still don’t think it’s a good sign lol.

I might not find some political activism that compelling but I try to keep in mind Kwame Ture's point:

"You don't criticize somebody who's doing something when you doing nothing."

2 years of genocide. I mourn the dead, and I mourn the living. None of us will ever be the same, none of us should ever be the same.

ICE admits that up to 50% of arrests in its Chicago raids are "collateral.” These aren't statistics. They are parents taken from their children, neighbors taken from our communities. When does a "collateral" U.S. citizen child's trauma matter? This isn't law enforcement; it's a campaign of terror.

Accidentally played my students 10 seconds of Propagandhi in class today before putting on a more appropriate work playlist. Some good new lore for them.

the cultural crisis is straightforward: there are no longer any formal consequences for blatantly anti-social behavior, and the rest of us are constantly just getting lectured that we have to put up with these assholes making our lives worse

Writing about this right now. We've had five-plus years of educators being ousted by MAGA. Can we go back and restore those folks' careers, safety, and peace of mind?

chotiner’s real gift is very quickly revealing how many powerful and influential people are complete morons. Sunstein is asked about his friendship with Kissinger and it’s pretty clear that he’s never really thought about it.

It would appear that uncritically funding the people that hate us so much that they mint coins commemorating body counts instead of listening to the people who said that the institutional rot within the police is so deeply engrained that they represent a danger to us all has mysteriously backfired.

It's ironic that the people most responsible for getting us to this moment are now like "oh this is too far for me." very strange.

a key reason they see an opening for such a blatant speech crackdown is that they already did one to Palestinian and anti-genocide activists and it got enthusiastic bipartisan approval

Charlie Kirk, Redeemed: A Political Class Finds Its Lost Cause By ignoring the rhetoric and actions of the Turning Point USA founder, pundits and politicians are sanitizing his legacy.

Ta-Nehasi Coates is doing a lot of things with this essay, but one of the most important is fearlessly using examples of anti-trans hate to describe Charlie Kirk's politics.

The contrast between his choices and those of other writers for major legacy outlets is revealing.

The free speech activist who built a list of professors he worked to get fired for their speech must be celebrated for his support of free speech, and anyone who quotes his speech accurately in context will be fired and/or face state punishment by the champions of free speech, do I have that right?

so ICE murdered a father in cold blood from a routine traffic stop, we're murdering random Venezuelans in foreign waters, we're shackling S. Koreans for building the factories we need to keep the southern economy alive, and we have a majority party trying to tie passport status to political views

(the rule is that using speech to advocate for fascism is just doing good old liberal politics, the right way, but on the other hand, asserting that a fascist is a fascist is violent anti-speech and there is blood on your hands for it)

Getting sick of the term β€œpolitical violence” when a public figure closely aligned w/one ideology or other is a victim. ICE is also political violence. Armies are also political violence. Not sure of my point - just wish for a term that doesn’t immediately wall an act like this off from all the rest

Whether or not you support political violence won’t change where we’ve come to, nor where we’ve been for some time in this country. I am quite taken aback by how many people only invoke the term β€˜political violence’ when it happens to a person with power. It’s political violence the other way too.
