Living the dream … as always Hello there, yes, still alive. Things are busy though and I have books to write. I'm determined to publish a bloody book this year if it's the last chuffing thing I do (and at this rate, it probably will be). As a result I am working on two at once, the dementia memoir the first of the two sequels to Too Good To Be True.

Thoughts … It’s Mothering Sunday today, which is British Mother’s day, which is a church holiday, which is why Mother’s day is in May in every other English-speaking country. Mothering Sunday was originally the day when people went back to their ‘mother church’ or in other words, it was the one day a year posh people’s servants were allowed to go home and visit their families.

In which MTM is a cockwomble, just for a change … Last Monday was an interesting day. The kind of day that makes me wonder what the fuck is going on. Well, no, I mean, I end up thinking that most days—at the moment, I think that every time I watch the news for starters—but I digress, I am talking about on a personal level. Sometimes, though, I wonder if other people's lives are a bit less chaos-tastic.

A picture of the sun through fog. Close up taken with a phone. The sun looks blue-white and pale, complete with little black dots, sunspots I think. The surrounding sky is watery blue in a halo round the sun, fading out to a more greenish and darker tinge.

It was a strange foggy winter day this morning with a watery sun so I decided to try zooming in and taking a picture of it. I rested my phone on the parapet of a bridge and this was the result.

It's definitely skewed mine. I'd also read a lot more humorous sci fi if more than a handful weren't exclusive to Amazon. That might skew it back as it's very male dominated. I write, too, and like to recommend obscure indies in my newsletter. But a big chunk of my readers don't use Amazon. 🤣🤣

Probably just luck. I have very little time to read but have been reading works by a couple of quite prolific female authors; Patti Jansen and J J Green as well as all Rachel Churcher's books and a bunch by Julia Blake (the Erinsmore books) who writes like a modern Baroness Orczy.

I don't but there might be more male authors in the older stuff just because there were more male authors than female published in those days it seems. Among current authors it's definitely about 50:50, even though some of my favourite genres like sci fi can be quite male dominated.

I'm female but have no preference, I just like good writing, preferably witty stuff too. If the story is good and the writing poor I'll probably prefer the film. I do like my books multifaceted like life so if it concentrates on a single trope or genre I find it one dimensional and boring.

No two people will tell the same story even if they're... you know ... telling the same story. Will they sue you? If there is the remotest chance they will, change it. I changed the name of my world from Yarth to K'Barth because there was a Yarth invented for d&d by someone in the USA.

I can imagine. As someone who wrote during my lad's early years it certainly spoke to me. 🤣🤣

Two flying cars crossing a city skyline one pursuing the other firing lasers at it. The style is comic book with a bright pink sky fading to yellow at the bottom. The pursuing car is black and the one being chased is a 1960s MKII jag ... but with wings.

Fancy a fast paced #fantasy book with an unwilling, underdog hero, a lot of comic book/1960s #sci-fi influences and #british snark? The 1st full length novel in the complete K'Barthan Series is 99c in digital format until 16th December. For store links and info go here: www.hamgee.co.uk/kbs #author

If it helps, I borrowed some of the ones Nigel Planer did from my local library (in the uk). Thanks for trying to avoid Audible they are absolute gets to authors and narrators. They lie, cheat and make up sales figures and pay us whatever they like - way less than the 0.004c per 3 mins Spotify pays.

I have this thing where I stick googly eyes on stuff. It's called #eyebombing. Over the years I've become a bit obsessed. I'm doing a photobook so some point. Here's one I did a couple of days ago. Enjoy!

So that's jolly. I have tennis elbow, in one arm, carpal tunnel in both hands and yesterday a wasp stung me in the face. 🤦🏽😱 the only way is up.
