I've heard of @cheriepriest.com over the years, but this is the first novel of hers I've completed. Not sure why I waited so long. Looking forward to more.

A local doctor also joins the party. There's also a detective, who knows more than he reveals, but appears tied by police processes (no, nothing supernatural here, it's all just normal madness/drowning/suicide/whatever). Excellent novel, now on to the second.

Additionally, the main character is Lizzie Borden, although her axe is used to defeat those changed by the call coming from the ocean. Her parents turned into monsters, her neighbors in Fall River, Massachusetts follow. Lizzie tries to study what's happening, along with her sister Emma.

What I've Been Reading Lately: Just finished, Maplecroft, by Cherie Priest. Again, an author borrows from Lovecraft's legacy of cosmic horror and creates a work that's especially effective. It has gothic horror, fish men, an unknowable sea god, madness, chaos, and more. #booksky 📚💙

Interesting headstones I found in the Rockingham Meeting House graveyard. A group near each other with three stones stating, "Wife of." Each was for the wife of the same man, from different years. Then another with a child aged 8 months. He lost 3 wives over the years and at least 1 child.
