In IL you had to post your license, $, or a bond card which you got from AAA. I'm old enough to remember when DL was paper and they'd staple it to the ticket paperwork so when you got pulled over they'd feel for staple holes to know if you were a bad driver. You got a bond card to avoid staple holes
