SB2111 passed in Illinois, fixing the RTA funding crisis!

Also gives $476m in Intercity rail funding, requires Metra to operate the RI district as "Regional rail" (pilot) before 01/1/2027 and has provisions for studying extending the Metra Electric to Kankakee among many other things in the bill~

Last night, Illinois’ legislature passed a law, SB2111, which will fund a major expansion of service for the Chicago region’s transit systems, thanks to new revenue sources.

The law also takes a major step forward in coordination between agencies.

Info from the MIPRC meeting this past week: Missouri has funded a 3rd daily Amtrak River Runner, which runs between Kansas City and St Louis.
