I once took a 6am flight from Dublin to Madrid where the sole passengers waiting to board were me, the friend I was traveling with, and Jason Isaacs. I awkwardly stared at the back of his head for most of the flight.

Santiago has an airport but you can also fly into Porto and take the train up the coast. (Porto itself is also a great option, but I'm just a sucker for Santiago, haha.)

Santiago de Compostela is one of my fave places in Spain, it's beautiful and easy to get around, you can go out to the Cies islands, easy train down to Vigo or up to A Coruña, very lush.

Someone mentioned San Sebastian, which is also lovely but expensive and will be packed.

Any criteria for locations? I'm a big fan of northern Spain in the summer. Galicia has excellent beaches and great food, and Asturias (particularly Gijón) is also gorgeous.

In the other direction, have you been to Yorkshire yet? Some friends just got back and have been raving non-stop about it.

(and yes it took this long for the English version of this movie to make it to our theater — but c'est la vie)

Saw "The Critic" at our cute little theater yesterday — I don't think the trailers adequately prepared us for this movie. Ian McKellen was absolutely mad, in all the best possible ways.

This Nancy Mace thing is going to be a defining moment for the Democratic Party. Mace is deliberately bullying another person, one of their colleagues. And if House Dems are too chickenshit to defend their own colleague over this open, blatant hate, what the hell is the point of them anymore.

I read Little Girls In Pretty Boxes a dozen or so times as a young teenager — my dislike of this man is visceral.

Weird bursts of energy (and discovering a non-stop bus route into the Altstadt from Reichenhall) means we've been wandering into Salzburg much more frequently this fall. (It's only a few miles away but public transport options turn it into an annoying hour-long trip.) It's such a lovely city!
