Pentagon threatens to make Anthropic a pariah if it refuses to drop AI guardrails | CNN Business Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth gave Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei a Friday deadline to comply with demands to peel back safeguards on its AI model or risk losing a Pentagon contract.

Is that the cost of a PR boost on Twitter these days? Seems a bit pricey tbh

Perhaps they think they're adding something, maybe they've found a new hobby?

30+ years making stuff online, prob be better off if I had a quid for every "why doesn't it do this one really niche thing that only I want?". ยฏ\(ใƒ„)/ยฏ

This post is the single best advert for the fact that proper local journalism matters.
If Jimโ€™s team hadnโ€™t put the pieces together quickly, this wouldnโ€™t have been stopped.

That's excellent. Don't know why, but it made me think of parts of John Adams's Shaker Loops

Love both of them. It always comes back to almost anything on In The Pines for me - just something about the sound of that on vinyl, like you can hear the space around them, like hearing the expanse and the air.

Bought Surfer Rosa the day it came out. Bought on cassette because I was about to drive somewhere and that was all I could play in the car. By the end of Bone Machine, I was parked up on the side of the road where I listened to the rest of the album before driving on. Astonishing record.

Who's the billionaire behind Londonโ€™s biggest mass eviction? He's the London philanthropist who says he's committed to solving homelessness. So why is Asif Aziz's Criterion Capital rushing to make hundreds of Londoners homeless in the coming weeks?

Londonโ€™s โ€œworst mass eviction in recent historyโ€ is underway; hundreds of households across London told to get out of their homes this week by the same landlord, ahead of the renters rights act. The landlord? Billionaire Asif Azizโ€™s Criterion Capital. www.londoncentric.media/p/asif-aziz-...

They can be useful tools for lots of things, but selling them at a utility level doesn't raise 5 quadsquillion in an investment round, so they get hyped and to justify the hype, they get thrown at a mass of things they are incapable of dealing with. Also - good job on this.

So, just to recap, we have two random DOGE bros with basically no knowledge or experience in the humanities (and at least one of whom is a college dropout), who just went around terminating grants that had gone through a full grant application process by feeding in a list of culture war grievance terms, selecting out the grant titles based on the appearance of seemingly โ€œwokeโ€ words, then asking ChatGPT โ€œyo, tell me this is DEIโ€ and then sending termination emails the next day from a private server and forging the directorโ€™s signature.

This is what โ€œgovernment efficiencyโ€ looks like in practice: two guys with zero relevant experience, a keyword list built on culture war grievances, and a chatbot confidently spitting out 120-character verdicts on federal grants that went through actual review processes. The experts who might have explained what these grants actually do? Locked out. The director whose signature appeared on termination letters? Couldnโ€™t tell you which grants got cut or w

Ever wondered how your grant got cancelled? No we know. Some college dropout asked ChatGPT "is it DEI/woke"?
