A legally required determination on whether or not climate pollution endangers the health and welfare of the United States (hint: it does) is now "regulatory overreach" (hint: its not).

Smarter building codes save money. Mayor Lucas, don’t take KC backward | Opinion The City Council voted to cancel updated energy-saving rules. Quinton Lucas should stand against it to save homeowners and renters big money. | Opinion

@mayorq.bsky.social has about 24 hours to keep delivering lower costs for Kansas City residents by vetoing an ordinance weakening building energy codes. This OpEd from a local home energy rating expert explains why he should do that. Hope you do, Mayor Lucas! www.kansascity.com/opinion/read...

Our Homes Aren't Ready for Extreme Cold and Power Outages | ACEEE

Some Kansas City families are saving hundreds of dollars a year on their energy bills since 2023 thanks to updated building codes. The Council voted 7-6 last week to reverse that progress and raise future bills. @mayorq.bsky.social should veto. Might even save your life www.aceee.org/blog-post/20...

I think this caucus is great, but some of these members literally voted to raise energy bills on people struggling the most earlier this month. Cognitive dissonance much? www.canarymedia.com/articles/ene...

If we build a bunch of homes that cost people more money, risk their lives, and ultimately get destroyed in extreme weather, who have we helped? Home builders and nobody else. More than half the manufactured homes in the country are built well. The rest can be too www.canarymedia.com/articles/ene...

Isn't the goal of "abundance" to lower costs? Revoking energy efficiency standards does the opposite. Sure you might get a slight reduction in monthly home loan payment, but thats dwarfed by the increase in monthly energy cost. If HUD had actually acted in 30+ years this wouldn't be an issue.

Mobile homes already have huge utility bills. Congress may make it worse. With latest vote, Congress may end up making mobile homes even less energy efficient.

Thanks for calling this out! Hopefully Senators don't do the same. Many of these votes are due to being misled by a l dear colleague letter from Rep. Auchincloss that falsely claims the bill would improve affordability and not diminish the importance of energy efficiency: grist.org/energy/mobil...

I sure hope for the sake and pocketbooks of the hundreds of thousands of families that are planning to buy manufactured homes in the coming years that U.S. Senators are better at math than most of their colleagues in the House...

Any of you would take $40 a month with a lower energy bill in exchange for $20 monthly in your home loan payment Thats exactly what DOE's energy efficiency standards for manufactured housing net households: $20 a month in lower housing bills.

Thank you to the 147 House Democrats who voted against raising energy bills on American families this morning. To the 206 Republicans and 57 Democrats who voted for higher costs for families buying manufactured homes - why? Voters have clearly said they want lower bills, and this is an easy one.

They claim it will lower a home loan payment by a couple of bucks, but the fine print is that monthly energy bills will go up by twice that much. Nobody would take that deal if given a choice, but the majority wants to force that on hardworking Americans, all at the behest of a couple manufacturers.

"Affordable HOMES Act" Would Raise Families' Bills Bill would revoke efficiency standards for manufactured homes

As soon as tomorrow Congress could vote on HR 5184, which would kill a rule that would save struggling American families hundreds of dollars. People are trying to afford to keep their lights on and one of the first bills of the year would make that harder. Despicable. www.aceee.org/fact-sheet/2...

I was about to echo Count of Monte Cristo, but original language is French. Same with Les Miserables, which is the best. Lord of the Rings has to be on the list, and I was a sci-fi nerd, so Dune and Enders Game are high on my list.

Also prices do not equal bills, and people only actually care about their bills. I live in DC, and while my "prices" have increased more than anywhere else in the country, my actual electricity bill has gone down. Way down, thanks to efficiency and solar.

When we bought our current house it had gas appliances. Never turned on the gas stove, got the IKEA induction hot plate and used it for more than 6 months until we got our induction stove. Just loaned the hot plate out to a friend (with pots and pans) while they switch to induction after a gas leak.

States and utilities are grappling with rising demand and energy costs as Congress undercuts the most affordable and viable options. Join me and others in Denver in October to figure out how the fastest and cheapest resource - energy efficiency - can and must meet this moment

Coal used to make steel gets break in Trump's tax bill Coal used to make steel got a break in the latest version of President Donald Trump's tax bill, a subsidy that could be worth hundreds of millions of dollars over 10 years for a fuel that is mostly exported to countries including China.

There's even an actual coal subsidy in the bill! Except we dont get it, it goes to steelmakers in places like China, so I guess we dont even get that in our stocking after all. Sad... www.reuters.com/sustainabili...

Not sure, this post was about the amendment not to kill 25C (residential energy efficiency), 45L (energy efficient new home construction), 179D (energy efficient commercial and multifamily buildings), and 25D (residential clean energy). All Republicans but Collins and Murkowski voted against those.

Last night all but two Republican Senators voted to kill off tax credits that have helped lower housing and energy costs and keep the lights on since 2005 by reducing energy waste. If the Big Ugly Blackout Bill ultimately passes we all face higher costs, more debt, and a less reliable electric grid.

Totally agreed that the energy burden percentage increasingly in use is arbitrary. We now recommend using the Nevada approach: set the target at the median energy burden for the state as a whole, which is typically less than 3%. dwss.nv.gov/uploadedFile...
