A coastal storm will track well offshore on Sunday. No impacts are expected in the immediate NYC metro area. Coastal sections of the Carolinas, Southern Mid-Atlantic region and Southeast New England, might see some snow, gusty winds and coastal flooding. But it could track further east.

How much the block causes the TPV in SE Canada to split into a departing 50/50 low and the northern stream energy to dig south, will be crucial in determining the storm track. More separation between both features will allow for more trough amplification and a further NW track.

But there’s a large spread with the storm track on the guidance. Thus some uncertainty with impacts. 2/2

There’s potential for another major winter storm along the East Coast this weekend, as the -NAO block retros and decays into a building +PNA ridge out West. This will lead to phasing of the northern and southern stream energy for a strong coastal storm/Nor’easter. (1/2)

Good morning, NYC metro! Our major winter storm is here along with the bitter cold! Snow will be heavy at times into at least early this afternoon, but will likely change to sleet later this afternoon or this evening. Snowfall totals between 6” to 12” are expected.

No changes here this evening. Note that if there’s more sleet tomorrow afternoon, snow totals will be closer to the low end of these ranges. If there’s more snow into tomorrow evening, snow totals will be closer to the high end of these ranges.

But it turns bitterly cold tonight. Temps will drop into the low teens or single digits overnight with windchills below zero.

A major winter storm is now expected between Sunday and Monday for the NYC metro area. At least 6” of snowfall is possible. But a possible changeover to a wintry mix by Sunday evening might prevent blockbuster snowfall totals.

A significant winter storm is becoming more likely between Sunday and Monday in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. Details will be ironed out as we get closer. But heavy snowfall would be likely along the I-95 corridor & NW, even with a wintry mix at some point.
