YouTube video by EndVertex For-Profit (Creative) Software

I made a video essay! It's a love letter to 3d software crammed in between several hate notes about 3d software companies. Maybe it can be something you put on in the background while you do art. :) www.youtube.com/watch?v=I4md...

I've had parts of this written down for a while - but I thought it was about time to document the detailed version of what happened during Balatro development

this encapsulates what all of this administration is about. they aren’t β€œaccidentally” destroying departments. they are intentionally destroying the government so they can become the government. the only issue they have with the system is they don’t profit from it or control it

I’m not necessarily saying humans are too dumb to be worthy of our spot at the top of the food chain but I will say that if there were 100 gorillas and one gorilla took 55% of all the bananas the other gorillas would beat that gorilla to death with their bare hands.

What’s a technology that you think is overhyped?

I’m going to give a sideways answer to this, which is that the venture capital business model needs to be understood as requiring hype. You can go back to the Netscape IPO, and that was the proof point that made venture capital the financial lifeblood of the tech industry.

Venture capital looks at valuations and growth, not necessarily at profit or revenue. So you don’t actually have to invest in technology that works, or that even makes a profit, you simply have to have a narrative that is compelling enough to float those valuations. So you see this repetitive and exhausting hype cycle as a feature in this industry. A couple of years ago, you would have been asking me about the metaverse, then last year, you would have asked me about Web3 and crypto, and for each of these inflection points there’s an Andreessen Horowitz manifesto.

It’s not simply that one piece of technology is overhyped, it’s that hype is a necessary ingredient of the current business ecosystem of the tech industry. We should examine how often the financial incentive for hype is rewarded without any real social returns, without any meaningful progress in technology, without these tools and services and worlds ever actually manifesting. That’s key to understanding the growing chasm between the narrative of techno-optimists and the reality of our tech-encumbered world.

The Generative AI Con It's been just over two years and two months since ChatGPT launched, and in that time we've seen Large Language Models (LLMs) blossom from a novel concept into one of the most craven cons of the 21st ...

Newsletter: Generative AI is a marketing con perpetuated by Sam Altman and Dario Amodei through a mixture of lies and half-truths carried by a tech media that fails to ask the right questions. Outside of ChatGPT, generative AI companies barely get any traffic at all.

DID YOU KNOW for 25 years Matthew Shepard had no permanent resting place due to concerns his grave would be vandalized

Reverend Budde learned of this, she invited the Shepards to inter him inside the Washington National Cathedral.

She was and is a real hero.

I am horrified by how much time my children spend rotting their attention span on TikTok. I've set a rule that after every fifteen minutes of TikTok, they have to watch one hour of TV.

my immediate takeaway from the SCOTUS TikTok opinion is that there’s barely any concern for user speech. the existing legal frameworks just aren’t designed for social media.
