It's gonna be great, and I'm super hyped π

Screenshot of figures from the paper: Above a graph showing wiggly lines depicting the cumulative mass budget of Antarctica: a dark line swoops and wiggles downwards before stabilising at the end, colourful dashed lines (depicting snow fall) wiggle along constantly before sloping upwards at the same tme stabilisation occurs.
Below 6 maps of Antarctica in blues and red depicting the mass change in different basins.
π¨ New @oceaniceeu.bsky.social preprintπ¨ why has Antarctica stopped (net) losing mass, in spite of increased discharge?
Declining sea ice is part of the answer but increasingly heavy and frequent atmospheric rivers are most important factor.
Lots of important subtleties:

A grassy amphitheater with many people sitting, almost all of them are wearing orange shirts.
The UBC engineering cairn painted orange with the message "Every Child Matters" in white and white handprints. Two people are standing to the left after adding handprints to the structure.

Diagram of the Hadley circulation with a Western Hemisphere view of cloud cover in 2015. Hadley cells are large-scale circulation patterns that start with rising air on either side of the Equator, falling air at about 30Λ north and south, and then mid-latitude and polar cells from about 30Λ-60Λ and 60Λβ90Λ, respectively.
Plot cloud cover from 90Λ south to 90Λ north on the vertical axis and from 1984 to 2018 on the horizontal axis. Cloud cover is shown in shades of blue to light gray. Over time the clouds bands have narrowed and moved towards the poles.
Drop-dead gorgeous figures showing Hadley circulation patterns & cloud trends by Michala Garrison, NASA Earth Observatory.

The image shows a celestial spectacle over Manitoba, Canada, on a cold winter morning. The moonlight, refracted, reflected and diffracted by millions of falling ice crystals, creates extraordinary optical phenomena. At the center, the Moon is surrounded by a colored halo, called the corona, generated by the diffraction of small droplets of water or ice. A 22-degree halo is seen around it, formed by the refraction of moonlight through six-sided cylindrical ice crystals. On either side of the moon are "moon dogs," bright spots caused by the refraction of light through thin, hexagonal ice plates floating toward the ground. Above and below the 22-degree halo are upper and lower tangent arcs, created by refraction through nearly horizontal ice cylinders. The sky, captured in three combined exposures, appears surreal, transforming the moon into an icon of another world.

New look at the landscape beneath Antarctica π¦πΆ
Without the 27.17 million kmΒ³ of ice.
This clearly shows that much the West-Antarctic Ice Sheet is below sea level.
That's why it melts rapidly in a warmer climate, like it did ~120,000 years ago during the Eemian interglacial.

A newly surfaced document reveals the beef industryβs secret climate plan
ο»ΏWhat the beef industry knew about its environmental impact β and how it spent decades blocking climate action.
The beef industry has done an incredible job of greenwashing -- far better than the fossil fuel industry.
And the playbook is pretty damn clear. And, sadly, it's working incredibly well -- to the point of misleading the whole world, including many environmentalists...
