Derby is SO fun. My wish for you to find some work arounds! Is this for a mandatory skills test/benchmarks? I do know some folk who never managed to "open up" and the process of finding other ways meant they had more moves in their footwork toolbox in the long run.

Apologies for the gratuitous advice. I coached and played derby for years and forget that's not my role now in my decrepitude. If you're skating for pleasure, looser trucks are great. If you've got a local skate shop they may have some pointers about just how much to loosen for your size and build.

I thought the same til I found myself skating very fast on a slight incline (WHEEE!) and those loose trucks started to wobble uncontrollably and I ate pavement. Sadly quad strength and hip flexibility>loose trucks.

The anthology "I Like This Poem"- editor Kaye Webb. It can still be purchased from a few online retailers and I've seen copies in second hand bookstores. Honestly the best children's poetry collection I've come across. I can still recite "Cats Sleep Anywhere" and "Lone Dog" 45 years later.
