It’s amazing how pervasive this “if you don’t look it’s not a problem” thinking is. I was an engineer in a major rocket motor company in conservative Utah. They were allergic to physics. “Build ‘em ‘n burn ‘em” was the motto. Unspoken: If it doesn’t blow up it’s fine. Ship it. Screw the data.
