Important to remember that H1B visa holders have their whole life in the US. The home they rent or own is here. Their family. Their kids go to school here. Being locked out of the US is also in many cases rendering them homeless and away from their family, with no obvious path to return

A threatened $100,000 fee on H-1B visas verges on the insane. Highly qualified scientists and medical specialists will no longer be able to come to America to fill the needs of tech labs and hospitals - unless the potential employers pay the fee upfront - and that is highly unlikely!
