My question is - is this focus deliberate? Do you include the local governance of Marlow to establish a strong sense of place? The combination of the plot and setting being so provincial makes Marlow feel lived-in. Thanks for your writing Robert; I've pre-ordered book 5 and look forward to reading!

asbestos in the construction of a council-owned building advances the plot, a murdered local government official and local governmental failure in administration of burial plots, - the list goes on. The scope of these issues lends a practicality to each of these books that makes them a joy to read.

If you're ever in the States I'd love to come to a reading - but in case that won't be soon I must ask: The plotting in this series has always been locally-focused and civic-minded. We had (warning, spoilers for those who haven't read all the books yet)....... a secret message in a local newspaper,

Just finished it tonight! I liked the cast of characters in this one a lot and I think it’s my favorite of the series so far. Spoilers below so stop reading if you want……………..ok I loved the angle with the environmental poisoning. A very contemporary addition.

Sorry to be corny but the aerial shots of these crowds are almost indescribably moving and hopeful

For one, I think 3-4 million is low. Secondly, ACA marketplace enrollees tend to be older than 26 (off their parents' insurance.)

FWIW, the main reason ACA enrollment is so much higher in states won by Trump is because they include all 10 of the states which refused to expand Medicaid.

There’s millions of heavily subsidized ACA enrollees who would otherwise be eligible for Medicaid if those states expanded it.

Brief thread: just a reminder that the budget reconciliation law enacted by President Trump and the GOP Congress (H.R. 1, OBBBA) cut $1.1T/10 yrs in net spending from Medicaid, CHIP & the Marketplaces. That includes $990B in gross #Medicaid cuts: the largest cuts to the program in its history (1/x).

Democrats are pushing to reverse Medicaid and ACA cuts. Contrary to Republican talking points, that would not in any way expand health care eligibility for undocumented immigrants.

Spent 3 consecutive days in downtown and did not have any concerning experiences. Also noticed how remarkably clean the central city is. Neither of these would have been true from 2015-2024 probably.

New: According to staff, the Senate floor session scheduled for tomorrow is likely to be delayed again -- by perhaps weeks -- because Sen Chris Gorsek can't make it to the Capitol.

Gorsek has been battling health problems, but is needed to pass a tax package. #orleg #orpol

Kicking heroin is actually the most commendable thing RFK Jr. has ever done and I don't think the fact that he previously used drugs should be an attack against him.

Interesting wrinkle: he writes in his (excellent) memoir that although he has never been homosexual he for a time lived in a house with all gay men and inherited some of their patterns of speech and mannerisms he still uses today. So that explains some of the confusion, perhaps.
