The award is coach of the year, not best team results of the year. They won the shield for their troubles, but I’m not entirely convinced that KC’s dominance was due to coaching rather than roster.

Ultimately, Bev and Vlatko ended their championship run the same way - a quarterfinal exit.

Fresh off the bus, UW women’s soccer gets a heroes welcome outside of Husky Stadium.

Husky band is here while Football, Softball, women’s tennis, women’s basketball and others are here to show their support. Awesome stuff.

Washington women’s soccer goalkeeper Mia Hamant dies at 21 after kidney cancer battle Mia Hamant, a goalkeeper for Washington’s women’s soccer team who helped the Huskies reach the semifinals of the Big Ten tournament as a junior, has died. She was 21.

UW Women's Soccer just won the BIG 10 championship in a penalty shootout, and they did it for their teammate Mia Hamant, who just passed away from a rare kidney cancer.

I'm so emotional right now.

Reign had a good season. Lots of joyful moments. Tremendous improvement from last year. A bunch of young players who I feel still have much higher ceilings, and grew a lot this year. Good momentum. They will be back next year, better and stronger.

Still really proud of the #ReignFC to go from 13 to 5th. So much talent on this team now too! And if they were gonna lose, might as well be after Marta magic and Luana scoring

The Black Women’s Player Collective is aware of the hateful and discriminatory comments abuse and harassment directed towards black women with our soccer community. This is unacceptable. We have listened. We are exhausted and once again, we are deeply disappointed. Nonetheless, we continue on to be clear the players at the center of these comments are sis women. However, the BWPC stands firmly in support of the trans community.
The BWPC was founded to protect and uplift, black female athletes in and out of soccer, we denounce any ideology that seeks to detract from that purpose, and are exhausted by efforts to derail our access and to impact the beautiful game. As NWSL playoffs begin, our focus remains on increasing access to soccer and celebrating our community. We choose to focus on the incredible black women paving the way in our sport and our inaugural BWPPC combine for the next generation of Black soccer talent at the Allstate next wave national showcase. Sports are strongest when they every athlete is free to compete express themselves and exist authentically.

I think for clarity and context, we are a club and a team that we are always trying to do everything possible to be innovative and be curious. And I was literally sat in the offseason, bored one day at home, and wrote one thing in one time and I've never done it again and probably won't for a while now. But I think, yeah, it's obviously something that is in our world nowadays I think with life.

But does it replace the expertise of coaching staff and the expertise of analysts and all the work that we do every day to try and prepare ourselves? No, absolutely not. But I think the big thing about women's football is we're always trying to be innovative. Whether it be Michele Kang's company working on, I can't remember what the name of it is, but working on the women's health and trying to support our athletes as best we possibly can, we use a lot of technology in how we analyze things, whether it be data performance, whether it be video analytics, whatever it might be to best prepare ourselves to be able to put the best product on the field that we possibly can.

And I'm proud to be part of an organization that's always thinking outside the box. This was … what I said was not an example of that. It was me sat on my sofa on my own and in context of what I said, I'd never played a back five in my whole coaching career and I'd never really thought about it. And just by reading some articles it made me think, β€˜Oh, maybe it's something I should really look into and could we as a team execute that?’

And just by reading some articles it made me think, β€˜Oh, maybe it's something I should really look into and could we as a team execute that?’

And that's where the work started really was to really delve deep into was that something that we could do? And from some articles that I read that other teams had thought about it, whether it be in the men's game or in the women's game, they played it in different ways. Obviously Manchester United pretty well-known for playing it right now, and it set me on a journey to go and delve deeper, literally was it that that was all it was.

And yeah, the blowup and the, I've never gone viral, so that's been an interesting few days for me. But yeah, obviously for me, I'm just conscious that I don't want to take away anything from our coaching staff and our analytics department and everyone that works so hard on trying to do the best we possibly can every week to put something on the field that our players and our staff and our club can be proud of.

And like I said before, none of technology replaces human expertise. Our sport is about gut feeling, it's about going with instinct as much as it's about all the research and all the other stuff that we do behind the scenes that no analytical database is ever going to be able to tell you those things around gut feeling and just the way that you feel about something. And me as a coach, I'm very much drawn into that. Anyone who knows me, actually I'm very anti-data, pretty much you guys say all the time and I'm like, don't talk to me about certain data metrics. I'm not that interested in it. So for me to be the one that's actually blown up virally about something like that, I find quite amusing.
