The job market has been hard on everyone but definitely for early career attorneys with what has been frequently described as “niche but deeply necessary expertise” 🫠

Having grown up a journalist’s kid in Indiana I’m not all that surprised that the IN Senate voted no on this map

It's an actual game plan on the right. They use it for book bans as well. They start with something easy: no porn in libraries. That hooks in the low information folks. Then you slowly broaden the scope until you're yanking any YA that violates Christian nationalism.

it might seem surprising that the people who said “look, let trans people live their lives, but i have Reasonable Concerns about sports and toilets” aren’t up in arms about this, but what you have to remember is that those people who said that are liars who were lying

we are well past the point at which anyone who cannot identify bad faith like this is disqualified from commenting on it

the girl and her mother are basically screaming THIS IS A BAD FAITH ATTACK ON TRANS PEOPLE at the top of their lungs and if you can't see that you're stupid or lying

Like obviously this woman in this class is doing a targeted anti-trans grift, we know this but like
As someone who will give even the mildest progressive Christian/Catholic take and get bombarded by radtrads demanding citations the double standard only makes this whole situation more grifty

The whole essay thing is both horrifying and fascinating to me on a bunch of different levels, but one of those is the fact that conservative/right wing Christians absolutely do know how to demand and ask for citations…because they do it any time more progressive Christians say…anything progressive

Also, to be clear, when a trans instructor at OU is being punished and targeted for quite fairly grading a terrible essay, it’s bizarre to see academics online debating the rubrics.

There is a certain kind of Catholic convert who thinks they are more Catholic than the Pope.

Begging scholars who want to be allies of trans communities to stop publishing in Archives of Sexual Behaviour. It’s been more harmful to trans communities than the fucking Linacre Quarterly.

My father absolutely had his priorities when I was a kid and on Sundays it was absolutely “post-church fried chicken” and honestly I respect the shit out of that 😂

My father also deeply used his Protestantism to our advantage on Sundays because once my sister and I were old enough that we didn’t need both parents managing us quite as much he would dip out of mass during communion and get the car so quote “we can get to the fried chicken before the Methodists”

We will never know what they would have done with the name Margaret because I was a High Risk Pregnancy and their OB told them hey maybe don’t have any more babies but I like to think it would have been an equally obnoxious double first name

2) my mother had a grand vision of having three daughters named Mary Elizabeth, Mary Katherine, and Mary Margaret. They had my sister, who is Mary Elizabeth, and then three years later had me and my dad had to tell my mom “I love you but I cannot have multiple children named Mary it’s too Catholic”

1) my dad considered converting to Catholicism when he married my mom, and came very close but ultimately chose not to. Why?
“Well I just couldn’t get over some guy in a funny hat in Italy telling me what to do”

Nothing will ever be funnier to me than the fact that my father, who could best be described as “generically Protestant” has had precisely two hangups with Catholicism in his life, one when he married my mom and one when my mom was pregnant with me
