I placed this request to have an Accessible Parking spot cleared because it is just a giant snowbank. It still hasn’t been cleared and now more snow is coming down. Our city is not serious about snow removal.

Four hearts. The commenter…Patrick Watson. My jaw dropped and I immediately returned to the obituary. It listed the siblings of the incredible man I met almost 3 decades ago. 4 siblings listed, the last one? Patrick. I don’t know how we got here, but friends, we are all connected. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

I needed to know more. I found a social media post from his friends, devastated at the loss of this larger than life person who centred his children in all he did. He jumped out of planes, he hiked, he paraglided & sadly the latter took his life. I read touching tributes & noticed the top comment.

My heart felt so heavy & I couldn’t stop crying. My connection to him across nearly 3 decades was based on one brief event, words and a sentiment that carried me through dark & happy times as a mother & continues to do so.

When I found the obituary tears immediately poured from my eyes. I was shocked. His life was cut short only two weeks prior. The angelic voice and piano of Patrick Watson seemed to intensify my experience. I had recently been playing his music for my youngest to help with his sensory meltdowns.

The images I saw of his huge, impish smile brought me back to that evening at The Horseshoe Tavern where we met. Full of life, connected to the universe, sharing his positive energy with those around him.

So thanks to modern tech I looked him up. And sure enough I found him. A father of 4 beautiful children. Successful in his profession, a lover of the arts and the outdoors.

A few days ago I was reading through some old writing of mine while listening to Patrick Watson & came across some of my thoughts after our encounter in February 1998. I saw his name & wondered what became of him.

I eventually got married & had 2 children. I often struggle as a mother & in some of my darkest moments, the observation of this unusual man flashes in my mind. Someone I barely knew, who looked so deeply in my eyes, with his hand on my heart, & shared with such confidence that I would be a good Mom

After that encounter we exchanged a few emails (he lived in another city) and he even sent me a few photos of himself. And that was it. We both continued on with our lives. Me never knowing what became of him & he never knowing what became of me.

The observation completely threw me. Nothing had ever felt further from the truth for me at that time. Tears immediately poured from my eyes in that moment, I was embarrassed & shocked at my reaction.

The universe is a funny place. 28 yrs ago almost to the day, I met a very unique person. He popped into my life seemingly out of the blue. We had a very brief, but strangely deep encounter. He told a very young & sad version of me that he felt I would make a wonderful mother one day.
