I'm probably not alone as an artist who's a bit burnt out and drained right now. But this. This right here keeps the fire going. Science like Doug's allows my art to exist. We all have to keep working and making and showing up so everybody gets to do what they want to do.

My wife is a 'clutter makes me anxious and overwhelmed' neurodivergent. I am a 'if I can't see it, it doesn't exist' neurodivergent. When we redo the kitchen we're getting glass cabinet doors as a compromise because I literally do not know what is in those cupboards.

If my writing about autism does anything, whether it be in my books, my columns or my reported stories, I hope it advances the idea that autistic people are whole human beings as they are with legitimate needs and inner lives that deserve to be told the same as other stories.
