I was reading about Elizabeth Pepys the other day. She kept her own diary, in which she wrote about how lonely and miserable she was. But Samuel Pepys tore it up in front of her while she cried. We might have Elizabeth Pepys' diary if it wasn't for her husband. He was a terrible man.

It is just nonsense. Look at the history of how Fahrenheit defined his scale - it is a mess of arbitrary points, fudges and corner cutting. As for granularity - that argument is debunked by the invention of the decimal point...

Really? I thought that for a proper pie you chopped the ends off the boiled eggs and lined them up...

The ones I ate as a lad were definitely made with actual eggs, as sometimes you got an end of the egg.

Members of my family are speculating about a confectionery gala pie, using marzipan for the pastry, pink marshmallow for the pork and creme eggs for the eggs.

They are debating whether the eggs get the ends chopped off before being put into the pie.
