Have to disagree with many posts. Trump is looking for every civil rights violation against white people he can possibly find so that he can sell all the reverse discrimination lies. That means there have to be at least a handful in the office.

I have been told that people on the left and right simply don't understand one another. Must be true, because the truth of almost every statement I make is blindingly obvious. Therefore, those who don't agree with me must misunderstand.

Personally, I would make climate change as the primary idea because it has the most profound impact. But as a Christian, the focus must be on the welfare of the poor. But then there is racism and homophobia and child-care and health care and LGBTQ+ and - you get the point

They actually had the debate in Virginia. Patrick Henry proposed that Christianity be declared the official religion of the state of Virginia. Madison (Jefferson was in France) argued that it was immoral to establish any religion, that there has to be both freedom of and freedom from religion.

The problem is that those of us on the left have a diverse set of ideas. We don't agree on everything. The right has a more cohesive ideology. We end up fighting with one another for intellectual and ideological reasons. Conservatives rarely do so.

I'd prefer Medicare for all as well, but I am a big fan of the ACA. It has provided health insurance for millions. The grudging support Bernie and company give the ACA is very disheartening.

I agreed with Joe completely until his last comment. I am aware that the left is far from perfect. I do not like the fact that some of my brothers and sisters won't be satisfied with making things better. They want perfection, which we will never achieve. But the more we fight among ourselves -

The right hates the DEI America that believes everyone can contribute to the common good. Of course, I'm not sure they believe in the common good, just the individual or family good, what's good for me, not what's good for everybody. I know we need to be self-aware. The left is not perfect.

It has been said, even here on Bluesky, that people on the left hate America. I'm sure you can find a few. But none of them hate America as it is as much as Trump and his followers. They hate the pluralist America which the left acknowledges, even celebrates.

I thought the TV series stayed true to the spirit of the books. Details varied.

The President is still the Commander in Chief. The generals are obsessive about the chain of command. They might object in writing, but they will follow orders.

I've always been politically aware, but politics has not usually been my central concern. I'm a theologian by education and inclination, but science fiction and fantasy is really my first love, hiking and biking next. Politics is about 5th or 6th on my list, but now is different.

They think Americans are incredibly stupid. But then, they did elect Trump president, so I guess their assumption is warranted.

My Dad was on campus that day. Luckily, his class was in a different part of campus. I was 11. The idea that our government wouldn't use the military against citizens is dangerously naive. Republicans have done it before. They will gladly - gladly - do it again.

It is, in fact, an entitlement. We have to stop Republicans from redefining everything. If you paid into Social Security, you are entitled to benefits. That is what entitlement means.
