I'm mostly impressed that somehow backstreet boys managed to sell some performance rights to two different commercials?

Were the respective marketing teams both frustrated, "aw nuts, them TOO?!"

That part genuinely shocked me. Doing all that with the simultaneous camera cut had me half wondering if we were watching a pre-made music video

Some of this is just small fixed-mount elements that nonetheless stream perfect HD? When he looked up at the top of the power pole, obviously no cameraman up there. Crazy how many cameras they can just preposition!

I recently got a Keychron. I got the Q6 Max because I want the full 101 key experience but they have a number of smaller configurations. Key caps feel good, switches / action are solid.

Prev had a Leopold but it double-keyed every so often. This has been reliable.

Yea "actually private jet rich" is a level that many "stupidly wealthy rich" people think they're at but just are not... And it's a good way to become "lots less rich."

Also to your point, for that frequency of travel you could fly private via netjet and still save a ton of money.

May need to revise that quote about "nobody ever wrote a song called 'Fuck the Fire Dept.'"

What are the part numbers/names for those tiny probes you have hooked to the IC pins? I need to get me a set of those. (what's on the other end... BNC?)

Like they do realize that they only need to destroy one copy of each book, right? Like, do they think they're just buying out bookstores and burning it all?

This makes a lot of sense. An actual army is only like 1/8 infantry. Another fraction in tanks or whatever. But the vast majority of the troops are in the logistics and support side. Medics, cooks, truck drivers...

The needs of a well organized resistance at scale would not be dissimilar.

The dry humor embedded in functional requirements like "a quality gas mask should last through normal wear and tear, like getting beaten or thrown around by the police" alongside anodyne product review bullet points may put this article in the running for best capture of American zeitgeist for 2026.

And small quantities of milk would be sold in smaller imperial units: pint (16oz), half-pint (8), not 12/20oz units.

For inexplicable reasons, milk and juice are sold in quarts or gallons but soda (pop) is sold in liters, 2L most commonly but also 1 & 3.

Except for sub-liter amounts. "12oz can" and "20oz bottle" are standard.

"Two liter bottle" is a ubiquitous form factor and volume reference folks would use.

Yea I realize now that the social studies textbook called them "demonstrations" not "protests" but it hadn't occurred to me that it was an intentional term used by the demonstrators themselves, vs just a stylistic choice of the historians, or simply an older term also used in the '30s, etc. Neat!

In fairness I think snowplow driver was the #2 occupation goal shared by my brother and me until about age 10, right behind "trash truck driver" and "guy who gets to ride hanging off the back of the trash truck".

There *was* a petition on the ballot a while back (8 years ago?) for "six Californias".

It mercifully did not pass, as it would have gerrymandered the senate to be even further in favor of Republicans. Most of the CA pop is too concentrated for our land-based political boundaries to be subdivided.

That sounds great!

My super naive understanding of t-shirt print tech is just that fewer colors (and more b&w/outline) pops better and lasts thru more washes? Anywhere you can use a full printer, I do think the gold sphynx is more "authentic" looking or however you'd call it.

Color for a poster, B&W for a t-shirt

BFU is actually an internal state situation that makes the phone harder for an adversary to crack. It's less about "how does normal access happen" (tho PIN is better than bio for this) and more "if they hook up a debugger, can they read the unencrypted memory". BFU relocks the internals of the phone

Genuine question: I hear about so many people spending tons of time in Minneapolis guarding schools or street corners or otherwise heckling ICE. (inspirational)

Are folks all just taking time off work to do this? Are workplaces functionally shut down during the occupation anyway?
