I score in the 99th percentile for reading comprehension and overall linguistic aptitude, but I still prefer audiobooks because I have ADHD & don’t like to sit still outside of my desk job. The only reason to unilaterally rule audiobooks as lesser is ableism.

Same. ADHD + a lot of other neuro things make it hard for me to sit still long enough to get through a day at my desk job without hopping on a treadmill. I do not have the capacity to sit still and read a physical book after work - audio while moving is the only way.

It astounds me this is even a debate in 2024. I grew up listening to audiobooks with my sister on her library of Congress issued cassette player she got for being ruled legally blind from a literacy standpoint. Audio made books a bonding vs dividing experience despite her profound dyslexia.
