23.02.2026 22:39 โ ๐ 8 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0If theyโre going to make accounts mandatory at least they could offer single user FirstSearch premium options or an upgrade model where the search options/info available in FS is accessible, because basic WC is just deprived of useful search facets
23.02.2026 15:07 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0ILL listserves used to have whispered stories about the dark ages when you got charged by the search in OCLC (or something like that) and I used to be so glad that the system was now open, inviting, for all of my patrons.
23.02.2026 15:05 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I use FirstSearch almost exclusively so I missed this but what a terrible move. Being able to cite and link to WC records is a boon for museum bibliographies, publication biographies, much more. How is that sustainable with a system like this? How much less discoverable is all of the data now?

Look at this: @inquirer.com has digitally preserved the interpretative signage removed by NPS, and used annotations to explain what specifically was flagged before removal. This keeps the content publicly accessible (for now) while doing newsworthy reporting

Signs about the history of slavery in the U.S. and the 9 people George Washington enslaved are being removed right now at the Presidentโs House Site in Philadelphia, across from Independence Hall, months after the Trump administration threatend to do so.
