In social movement studies, we talk about how marches and protests expand the threshold of acceptable risk so that people take more and bigger social risks IN PUBLIC, EN MASSE. This is extremely important for the bourgeois white folks holding signs and building social rapport.

Mini marsupial bounces back from the brink!

Once listed as Endangered, the crest-tailed mulgara expanded its range by more than 48,000 kmΒ² between 2015 and 2021, lifting its status to Least Concern. Biocontrol contributed to the heartwarming bounce-back.

I’ve seen a lot of hand wringing about the dangers of going to No Kings protests and gently, I want to tell people to chill a little. These are permitted marches and the point is to be out there and seen en masse. Please don’t scare off people who are maybe going to their very first protest

Community Before Strategy And how to stop authoritarianism with this One Weird TACO.

"By hitting Trump with TACO over and over, you (a) reveal his pull-backs as weakness and (b) dare him to go through with the stuff that will screw up the real worldβ€”and, in theory, create pain for his movement."

The Luddites had a great phrase for what they opposed: "Machinery hurtful to commonality." It's an excellent reminder that being a Luddite doesn't mean you hate technology, but that you hate the way capitalists create and use technology to destroy community and human flourishing.

I have a lot to say about the resurgent young men / masculinity discourse but for now will confine myself to:

I wish I knew how to convince teenage boys/young men is how little of the world actually requires or even invites the hypermisogynist "tough guy" aesthetic

Several emails dated October 21, 2016.

Ed Martin writes: "Go slow and steady. Not too much of a flood. Make it organic. Email his comments to others and say 'is this right?' Direct message him and play sweet/dumb ... 'i am not a lawyer but how can this happen?' And 'john and roger and others are grieving their mother's death ... can't this wait?'"

A reply back from Priscilla Gray says "on it."

Another email from Martin says: "Turn up the heat with others on his page. Call what he did unfair and rigged over and over. He's doing it like hillary does ...."

And a third email reads: "Go back on his page and write 'your ruling puts anne cori and her co plaintiffs in charge of the entity they sued, Eagle Forum. How can the anne cori and the plaintiffs now be telling the lawyers for defendant eagle forum how to defend themselves? That is not justice but a rigged system. So, you gave them eagle forum by rigging it so anne cori is lawyer for both sides. Shame on you and this broken legal system.'"

Ed Martin, Trump's pick for D.C. U.S. District Attorney, ghostwrote online attacks against an Illinois judge with whom he was in a legal dispute.

We obtained emails that show Martin bought a laptop for the woman who made the posts and coached her on how to make them look organic: propub.li/4d1aut5

This Hospital System Fought COVID, Then a Far-Right Leader. Now It’s Taking on Idaho’s Abortion Ban. St. Luke’s, Idaho’s largest health system, was outspoken in defending its staff during a backlash against masks and vaccines. It also sued right-wing figure Ammon Bundy β€” and won. Now it’s backing…

St. Luke’s, Idaho’s largest health system, is the one major institution standing in the way of a ban on emergency abortion care in Idaho β€” a move that would make the state’s policy one of the most extreme in the country.

You can stop asking where the mass opposition is. It's everywhere. People poured out to protest not only what Trump has doneβ€”and what they fear he will do next.

The message is: crowd large.

Many politicians, administrators, and business leaders, in bowing to Trump, have drawn confidence and comfort from the perceived vibe shift.

Events like this puncture that delusion.

Tell your Dem Senator to vote NO on Cloture and NO on the Republican spending bill.

Do NOT assume your Senator will be good on this. Trust me.

Federal Workers Sue to Disconnect DOGE Server Two federal workers, citing reports that Elon Musk’s associates are operating an illegally connected email server at OPM, seek a restraining order.

Exclusive: Federal workers have filed an emergency motion requesting a restraining order to disconnect the DOGE server that's being used to conduct Trump's "deferred resignation program." The workers had previously accused DOGE of illegally bypassing a mandated privacy audit.
