The British library is in crisis: why does nobody care? The widespread indifference to the British Library's crippling cyberattack demonstrates a perilous failure to value the knowledge infrastructure vital for national prosperity

I’ve written a piece on the curious lack of media and political interest in the issues faced by our national @britishlibrary.bsky.social. This is strange given we live in a world where ideas, knowledge and research are a long-term source of innovation and insight

35 years ago today, Deee-Lite released β€œGroove Is in the Heart,” a kaleidoscopic dance-floor explosion blending Herbie Hancock samples, Bootsy Collins funk, and a Q-Tip verse. With its trippy video and infectious beat, it became an instant club classic.

Genuinely, if any SE Michigander wants a tuba for this purpose, my brother bought a tuba exactly for this reason (I am not joking) and then realized he's not great at playing it.

So if you want a tuba, DMs open.

(A reasonable offer would be appreciated, probably.)

I wonder in what other contexts we might see such a review published in a journal as prestigious as Music Analysis. Would Music Analysis publish a review of a book on Mozart that did not make connexions to existing Mozart literature? Would such sarcasm and misreading survive the editing process in a review of a book by Joseph Straus or David Huron? Would a graduate student representative of Project Spectrum be given the latitude to write a 39-page review (including two and a half pages discussing the reviewer's own work despite its dubious relevance, four pages of β€˜vignettes’, three pages on the recent actions of the Jazz Interest Group, more than 1500 words of block quotes from the book in question and 1200 more in block quotes from other sources)? I urge the editors to take care and reflect on who gets to publish such things, who doesn't and the effects of such a publication.

I wrote a letter to the editor of Music Analysis about a 39-page review of Phil Ewell's book that they published. I think it could have used some … editing. It's open access for now while it's pre-print so enjoy while you can. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

ICE agents realize they arrested wrong teen, say 'take him anyway' Merwil GutiΓ©rrez, was deported to El Salvador's notorious super prison, despite his family's insistence that he has no gang ties or criminal history.

Cannot even imagine being this poor kid, one minute you're dicking around with your friends in NYC and the next you're brought to a prison in a foreign country despite having no previous run-ins with the law or anything.
