The first regular episode filmed after this was The Corbomite Maneuver and Spock’s collar was unusually high in that one too even though he was in the blue uniform. Maybe Leonard Nimoy was hiding something.

I really think they made the DVDs from 3/4 inch “masters” from a cut-rate dub house. There’s no way a professional company could have produced stuff this terrible even in the 1990s

First Contact and Picard S03 were enjoyable but I will say they kind of squandered making the Borg more interesting after this episode. I guess Seven had some good moments in Voyager as well, but “I, Borg” really hinted that much more was possible. #TNGSunNight

Many people don’t remember them but these were old style glass contact lenses. Even without aluminum foil layered in many people had difficulty wearing them.

I rewatched them with my daughter not to long ago. She’s not as big a TNG fan as I am, and she enjoyed them a lot. I still have some problems with Seasons 1 and 2 of Picard, but I realized that theres also a lot of good stuff there too. #TNGSunNight

Didn’t seem dramatically necessary, I agree. Overall I was a fan of the series, but there were some choices I didn’t care for. That might be #1 on that list. #TNGSunNight

I wish the XB storyline were more than a subplot to that season. In some ways it was more interesting than the main plot line (I’m actually a fan of all three seasons of Picard, but I think there were some missed opportunities.). #TNGSunNight

100 percent. Her realization of that, despite what the Borg did to her people is one of the keys to the whole episode. She’s probably the only one who could reach Picard and influence his decision. #TNGSunNight

That’s what makes this episode so great. They do a wonderful job of making everyone’s point of view justified given their experience. They also allow enough space for their positions to evolve. It unfortunate that much of the Borg stories that followed were not this nuanced. #TNGSunNight

You ain’t alone.

These watchalongs have a flow to them. Make lots of positive comments and there won’t be much snark. No promises about there being zero… it’s hard not to when we’ve all seen these 100 times, but this episode is a top 5 in importance for most TNG fans. #TNGSunNight

Keep in mind also, this is shot on film. Early TNG was in the 80s and video assist was quite primitive back then. Often difficult to detect problems on set during shoots. You wouldn’t know for sure until dailies were screened. If time was short, you might not be able to reshoot.

Surprising this take was used given the two issues you pointed out. Sometimes all the takes have things wrong with them and you just pick the least noticeable. May have been other things like background actors or focus-its a little tricky to keep everything perfectly focused as they walk to camera

Maybe someone should ask Alan Dershowitz. He usually has helpful answers.

The depressing thing is that there are demonstrably fewer “normal” people than any of us thought there were. Way too many people out there are fully okay with this. I really question whether going back to a being a reasonably “normal” country is even possible anymore.
