And Wright was as healthy as Alonso in his 20s. That's kind of the point why you don't hand out lengthy deals to guys in their 30s. And why don't the rest equal Pete - because you say so? LOLLOLLOL

24.10.2025 23:27 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0How did that work out for Michael Conforto or Jose Reyes or Darryl Strawberry or Noah Syndergaard or David Wright? Did they have many years of production left when they signed their big free agent deals?
24.10.2025 18:06 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Ultimately, whatβs sadder β seeing a favorite player leave in free agency or watching his decline and lamenting the anchor that his contract has become?

Maybe the shoulder injury ruined Conforto. Or perhaps what we saw was a somewhat normal decline from the 122 OPS+ in 2018 and 127 OPS+ in 2019 that Conforto produced without an inflated BABIP.

That's certainly a possibility.
As stated in the article, this is more of a think piece than an actual proposal. CBP would be a better park for Nimmo and having his contract end a year earlier makes this an interesting idea.
I agree with your sentiment. However, many readers of my blog feel differently and this was an article for them.
18.10.2025 01:09 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0So, hereβs an idea that has zero chance of happening in reality. But use it as a thought exercise, instead. Who says no if their mutual agent proposes to the Mets and Phillies that they do a Nimmo-Bryce Harper swap?

Stearns is much-more likely to give the 3-year deal it will likely take to get Schwarber than the 5-plus it will take to get Alonso.
17.10.2025 18:45 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I'm very glad that you read the article and I'm happy to talk about the Mets. But you haven't said one thing that either refutes the article's premise or that I didn't know before I wrote the piece.
13.10.2025 20:31 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0So long as you ignore the 2024 injuries to:
Peterson, Senga, Kranick, Reid-Foley, Megill, Smith, Diaz, Raley, Garrett, Nunez, Blackburn and Scott. Even if you limit to SP, there's still 5 of them and they all missed significant time. See the '25 Phils if you want to see a team with good luck.
If you're only going to consider pitchers who've never been injured, you're going to have a very small pool from which to choose. Montas had been healthy in 3 of his previous 4 years and Senga was very durable while in Japan and pitched a full year in 2023.
13.10.2025 16:12 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yep, all of that was said in the article
13.10.2025 16:10 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Megill was supposed to be a depth starter in the minors but got forced into the Opening Day rotation due to injuries. How many depth starters have a 4.56 ERA, Megill's lifetime mark heading into the season?

Montas threw 150.2, 144.1 and 187 IP. He threw 38.2 innings last year.
Eight of his nine seasons in the majors, Manaea avoided the IL.
Megill has been a consistent 25 starts per year in the majors and minors.
Senga made 20+ starts a year in Japan and made 29 starts in '24. They're plenty durable
It's become fashionable to criticize David Stearns for the way he built the starting rotation in 2025. How much of that criticism is valid, when six of the eight preferred starters hit the IL for extended stretches?

The 2025 Opening Day roster had 19 players who played for the team in 2024, along with several others who opened the season on the IL. Should they look to duplicate that number in 2026?

Since July 21, Alvarez has a .286/.370/.598 line, which is a 169 wRC+. In just 38 games, Alvarez has amassed 1.5 fWAR, which if extrapolated out to a normal catcherβs workload would be in the 5-WAR territory.

McLean is 4-1 with a 1.27 ERA. Heβs got a 3.29 K/BB ratio, with 46 Ks in 42.2 IP. McLean has a 1.4 fWAR and a 2.1 rWAR, his rWAR is higher due to the use of runs allowed as the base pitching input, compared to fWAR using FIP.

Siri canβt hit. He had one unsustainable six-week hot streak in 2023, where he hit 13 HR in 130 PA and had a .908 OPS. But from July 1, 2023 thru the end of last season, Siri had a .194/.252/.384 line in 622 PA.

From 8/10-9/2, the Mets scored 165 runs in 22 games and won by scores of 12-7, 19-9 and 10-8. They averaged 7.5 runs per game in that span and theyβll need something similar here down the stretch.

And that's absolutely no problem with the Mets, as that injury exception includes players on the 60-day IL, too, so long as they've spent 60 days inactive. Christian Scott, Drew Smith, A.J. Minter, Danny Young, Griffin Canning, Max Kranick and Dedniel Nunez all qualify.

Actual results β Soto has a 4.71 WPA, the best mark on the Mets and well above Pete Alonsoβs 3.38 WPA, the second-best mark on the team. Also, RE24, with Soto having a 46.71 mark compared to Alonsoβs 25.34 in the category.

31.08.2025 01:21 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0It might have been reasonable speculation to say that Holmes was gassed in July but he's been much better in August. The Mets have been extremely consistent with their messaging, saying that Holmes is recovering fine from his starts.
