i believe "metroid prime" was created as a sort of slow burn long term prank on metroid fans and we're finally seeing it hit the payoff phase

When I played Prime 1 (not that long ago) I thought it was a genuinely bad game and a poor reinterpretation of what the original 2D games were in a holistic sense.

It becoming the new normal of the series *did* ”kill” it and even the 2D games afterwards still have some of its influence.
