Being a good person is now a revolutionary act.
Acceptance is rebellion.
Brotherhood is dangerous.
Kindness is subversive.
Empathy, a threat.
Decency? Treason.
In an age of engineered cruelty,
To care is to resist.
To stand with the vulnerable is
To stand against empire.
Nearly 40% of women have a "mental health condition" says survey. Can't we ditch that language & the ideology it propagates & rather say: such women are in emotional pain, often for obvious socio-relational reasons. This take obliges a different response.

Deep listening is about dignity. Itβs recognising the humanity in someone, even when their ideas repel you.
21.06.2025 19:09 β π 16 π 6 π¬ 0 π 0Let's not call for more resilience, diagnoses, drugs, medicalisation & neurofication to address escalating rates of poor mental health, let's call for new social policy to tackle its social determinants & properly fund demedicalised psycho-social support. That's it in a nutshell.
21.06.2025 06:52 β π 19 π 4 π¬ 1 π 2The anger about what happened and what didnβt happen, what was seen and what was ignored - that anger is justified.
That MH professionals judge the anger of survivors of abuse, decide that itβs inappropriate and an indicator of a disordered personality is an abomination
A Psychological Approach to Understanding & Preventing Suicide (Free Training)
Weβve developed a suite of learning modules funded by NHS Education Scotland.

Morning. If you fancy listening to me talking about men's mental health, notions of masculinity, burnout, and such, give this a listen.
Only if you want, obvs.
I can't tell you what to do.

Around 1.8 million adults were prescribed psychological therapy in England last year, compared to nearly 9 million prescribed antidepressants. The imbalance isn't in our brains it's in our provision.

18.03.2025 07:42 β π 325 π 378 π¬ 6 π 7An awful legacy of DSM culture is that a generation of psychs & therapists now believe its legit (in no time) to shoehorn complex humanity into a crude, pre-established psych-construct, & keep them their via confirmation bias. This isnβt βexperienceβ at work but βindoctrinationβ.
08.03.2025 07:55 β π 15 π 4 π¬ 0 π 1This is concerning given the number of people now taking antidepressants tooβ¦
Itβs time to review antidepressants as the dominant approach. Theyβre causing more harm than help for many. AND do nothing to address roots causes.
The Institute for Fiscal Studies (IFS) reports that nearly a quarter of the UK population now suffers 'material deprivation' (being unable to properly heat their homes or feed their families).... And we wonder why mental & emotional anguish escalates....

And saying 'antidepressants work' obscures this important fact that antidepressants are drugs that change the normal state of the brain and mind in ways we do not fully understand and are not certain are safe or harmless

I was once asked, by an extremely privileged & exclusively private practice surgeon, why all Emergency Medicine doctors were socialists.
I think it's because we see the full breadth of societal failures and how for the lack of simple, cheap measures, people are wilfully kept in suffering & misery.
βRising antidepressant prescribing is not associated with an improvement in mental health outcomes at the population level, which, according to some measures, have worsened as antidepressant prescribing has risen.β Our piece in the BMJ:
