The claim that antisemitism is “ingrained and normalised” in academia is wrong. In my 15 years of experience as a lecturer in international politics, I’ve heard criticisms of Israel’s policies, but hate toward any group is not tolerated in any university context, especially in the classroom #auspol

Australia’s university system is ‘battered’ and ‘broken’ – a new book surveys the wreckage and offers some solutions

Our universities require a major overhaul. Reform is possible, but only if a government is prepared to take up the challenge.

The final act of the Voice referendum tragedy has now concluded. Dutton used Indigenous people as a political football to ‘get to the starting line’ and wreck Albanese in his doomed attempt to become PM. He will be defined by this shameful act rather than a few nice words on election night. #auspol

As more flooding looms for Australia, insurers pitch a bold plan The peak body for insurers wants the next federal government to stump up $30 billion to protect homes against an onslaught of climate-fuelled flooding predicted to batter Australian communities in the...

Governments will have to be insurers of last resort as the private insurance market contracts. A disaster relief fund will be essential to deal with the impacts of climate change and polluters should pay. #auspol

Fossil fuels are being 'eaten alive' by the solar rush Satellite imagery reveals the staggering rise of solar farms around the world in recent years. Can Australia get on board?

Is it any wonder working people are fuming? Supermarkets gouging customers with fake specials. Banks charging to access your own money. RBA holding interest rates high to make more wage earners unemployed to fix a supply side inflation problem.

Cost-of-living a big punch down. No trickle.

Climate change exacerbates inequality so undermines the foundations of democracy. Climate change disproportionately impacts the most vulnerable, ie children and future generations.

Phasing out fossil fuels to protect democracy and the environment is necessary for inter-generational justice. #auspol

A freight train of voter anger might be about to hit Albanese In an ominous sign for the government, new research shows dissatisfaction with the direction of the country is at the same level as it was just before the Morrison government lost the election.

Not surprising that the survey in this article found financial stress correlates with lower satisfaction with democracy and reduced political trust. Supporting households with housing and welfare policies is vital to protecting democracy. #auspol

Charts showing Australian, USA and Canadian inflation before and after the peaks by months.

Charts showing Australian, USA and Canadian inflation before and after the peaks by months. Australia's inflation is lower 22 months after the peak than it was in the US and Canada

Latest monthly CPI of 2.1% shows that Australia's inflation has come down faster than in the US and Canada - thanks to the govt bringing in measures like the electricity rebate.

It is a very good reminder that leaving inflation to central banks only to fix is idiotic

If you paid any tax in 2022-23, you paid more than all of these multinational gas corporations did on $36 BILLION income, exporting Australian gas from QLD.

Really makes you think. #auspol

Why children like me have a right to be heard at the People’s Blockade of the Newcastle coal port | Frankie Kelly From my perspective as a 12-year-old, it’s devastating that the protest is getting such a negative reaction from the NSW government

Frankie Kelly: “From my perspective as a 12-year-old, it’s devastating that the blockade is getting such a negative reaction from the government – it makes me really worry for my future when politicians aren’t making any big changes, but instead allowing new coal and gas projects to go ahead”
