According to a study from the National Alliance to End Homelessness, it would cost the government an additional $9.6 billion per year to end homelessness in the US by providing Rapid Re-Housing / Permanent Supportive Housing to individuals in shelters.

But sure, this is better.

On Nov. 16, a mental health counselor recorded in Kamilla’s medical records that her mother reported the girl had lost her appetite after being “served food that contained worms.”

A week later, the couple said, children were told to gather in the gym for what they believed would be a Thanksgiving celebration. Excitement spread as families saw tables set with turkey, sandwiches, pastries and pies, they said. The children waited expectantly. But when a parent asked when the celebration would begin, Oksana said, staff told them the holiday meal was for employees, not detainees.

The children, she said, watched despondently as the feast was packed away.

On Thanksgiving, the immigrant children held at the Dilley detention center gathered in the gym for what they thought was a holiday feast.

The kids salivated over a spread of turkey, sandwiches, pastries and pies, a family told me.

But the food wasn’t for detainees — it was for the staff.

This is from 1945’s The Long Weekend. It seemed weird to me to hear her shorten “naturally” to “natch”. I thought that was a more modern term.

Huh. This film is fine. Some of the music is good, some of it isn’t. Bing is always pleasant to watch and hear sing but…

It feels like a calm movie that was chosen as best picture during a war that had gone half a decade by this point.

What can I say about this film that hasn't already been said? It's a perfect film. The scenes, the acting, the dialogue, the sets, the music...perfect in every possible way. I've watched it over a dozen times and will likely see it dozens more.

Is this war propaganda? You betcha. It’s really also really well made? Also, yes.

Many plot points can be seen coming from a mile away but the movie still hits its emotional beats and the acting, especially from Greer Garson, is superb.

‘I am paying less attention to what my employees are doing than 90% of Americans are’ is a wild excuse for allowing your employees to cause pain, suffering, and death.

This is a tax on you.

You paid $1,000 more in a tax because of Trump.

Sometimes I take a picture to make sure I know where in a film I paused since some streaming services are less reliable than I would like in saving your place.

That means sometime I get to have the joy of seeing an image of Brendan Fraser looking all weird with his tongue almost out.

A bit too sentimental, but that’s the proposed subject matter. The pain, strength, love, and perseverance depicted in this film is so visceral and perfect. The finale drew my anxiety out and stomped on it. Just amazing.

Hitchcock is known as one of the greats for many reasons and this film shows us why. With this film, I found myself torn between wanting the protagonists to succeed with wanting them to be caught in their deception. This is a tense masterpiece.

Good morning. The President of the United States was in the middle of the most serious child sex trafficking ring of the last quarter century.

He is referenced not a dozen times in the case files. Not 100 times. Not 1,000 times. He’s referenced 38,000 times.

Can you believe this film won best picture instead of Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, Wizard of Oz, Of Mice and Men, Ninotchka, and many other films?

This is a racist piece of southern propaganda. At least the acting is mostly good.

This is a feel-good movie about the true meaning of life but it’s a bit two dimensional in its plot and characters. Still, the cast is good and it leaves you feeling good in a very “everything works out” ending sort of way.

Agreed. Even in 2026, this would be difficult to make. I can’t imagine producing it 90 years ago.

Gone with the Wind is nearly 4 hour long. I didn’t like it when I last watched it, 20+ years ago. It’s on basically the one streaming service I’m not currently paying for. But…

…for my best picture rewatch, I need to watch it. I can’t believe I’m about to pay to watch a movie I don’t want to watch.

I recently watched the Great Ziegfeld and, though the movie didn’t blow me away, I can’t stop marveling at this spectacular sequence that they spent the equivalent of millions of today’s dollars to create and it shows.

The whole sequence is over 7 minutes long but Bluesky only allows 3 minute clips

This movie somewhat fails at actually presenting the life of Emile Zola but I love myself a great court room drama. Also, can you imagine a monster in power actually getting punished for their crimes? What a fantastical notion!

Man, there’s a great movie in here, it’s just a hypothetical edit of this 3+ hour bloated epic that cuts it down by half. There some really beautiful musical numbers in this movie, there’s just slow, meandering plot between them.

The Epstein emails should really end the debate over whether society should have billionaires. "Do you want there to be a class of people so powerful they can fuck your kids and no one will even try to do anything" seems like an easy sell if everyone in politics wasn't trying to get on their payroll
