Blowout after blowout.

The problem is less-progressive (and I’m choosing my words carefully)… less-progressive candidates are circling for social housing.

Manaakitanga means looking after our people and not selling the roof from over their heads.

This whenua has nourished my people for 200 years, generation after generation. Tikanga tells me I am here to look after it for the next generation, and the next. Ake ake ake!

Manaakitanga is more than care or hospitality. It’s about uplifting the mana of others and strengthening relationships.

I’m standing for Council in the Māori Ward. My reasons are grounded in #tikanga.

I whakapapa to this whenua. I have a duty to kaitiaki the whenua, awa, moana and the people. All people.

I also have a duty to manaaki. It’s a kaupapa tied to whakapapa and the mana we inherit from our tūpuna.

A big thank you to @patrickmorgan.bsky.social for taking the time to kōrero this morning.
As someone who drives, buses and trains… but loves riding my ebike, I’m grateful for the choice of modes and safe cycling infrastructure.

My neighbours fixed Wellington’s pipes for over 50 years. That sort of skill & knowledge we can’t afford to lose.

Replacing just 650m of pipe vs 9.2km at HCC - wtf. Maintaining & upgrading infrastructure is better value than constant patch jobs.

Matthew Reweti who is running for Wellington City Council’s Māori Ward, stands on a footpath. Behind is a typical Wellington suburban street with a car parked. In front of the car broken yellow line.

Toitū te Tiriti. I’ll be voting YES ☑️ I want to keep the Māori Ward for WCC and GWRC

Te reo should not be forced into colonial frameworks.
Our democracy should enable all candidates to speak authentically in the language of their tūpuna.

Vote ONE for Matthew Reweti for Te Whanganui-a-Tara/ Māori Ward, Wellington City Council #ManaReo #TeTiriti #pōti #WCC

Compressing a reo statement into the same word count strips out nuance and makes it harder for candidates to express ourselves fully. This is about te mana o te reo.

For example the Council’s own ‘Pre-election report 2025’ is translated as ‘Ripoata i mua pōti 2025’. That’s 3 words vs 5 kupu. In the same document the Chief Executive’s opening statement is 767 words vs 985 kupu.

Did you know the Government limits local body candidate profile statements to 150 words in both Te Reo and English?

On the surface, that sounds fair. But, Te Reo has a different structure to English. It’s relational, contextual and often needs more words to convey the same depth of meaning.

Fat Freddy's Drop founder Chris Faiumu dies More widely known as Mu and DJ Fitchie, he was the man behind the band's signature sound.

I once watched Mu putting on the Miramar practice green. He took so many putts from all angles and not one dropped. I could see his disbelief and frustration rising with every miss. His music wasn’t the only entertainment and joy he gave me. rip big man. 🥲

Wearing the tohu today.

A young man asked me where I got shirt from?

By wearing the flag proudly, we help normalise Māori symbols in everyday life, encouraging the next generation to stand tall in their identity.

Today I’m proudly wearing the Tino Rangatiratanga flag on my shirt.

People wear this tohu for many reasons.

Today I’m wearing it in recognition of the #TinoRangatiratanga our tūpuna never cededed. #ToitūTeTiriti #AkeAkeAke

It is not surprising that when Māori speak, some will respond with fear. Not understanding. For generations, Māori who have asserted their rights under Te Tiriti have been labelled as troublemakers. It is important that we continue to speak our truth. #ToitūTeTiriti #TinoRangatiratanga #MāoriWard

White text on a black background from Existential Comics reads:
The phrase "unskilled labor" is used to distract you from the fact that the work they are doing is necessary for society to function.
Just because some necessary jobs require less training time than others doesn't mean those people deserve to live in poverty.
