Imagine the world you want, friends, 'cause it's definitely more plausible and functional than whatever this is.

Remember the days when the police were brave and protected us? Did such a time exist or were they always more afraid than we are? (Real questions, I don't know the history.)

Habakkuk 1:2-4
Lord, how long shall I cry help, & you will not listen?
Cry violence & you will not save?
Why make me see wrongdoing & trouble?
Destruction & violence, strife & contention arise.
The law becomes slack; justice never prevails.
The wicked surround the righteous; judgment is perverted.

Finally a white man using his position for good in the church

Amos 8:4-7 Listen, you who trample the needy, and bring to ruin the poor, listen you who rush to make food servings smaller and more expensive, listen you with false balances and you who fail to leave the last of the harvest for the poor.
God promises not to forget your deeds.

1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

They are piercing a lot of other people with grief, too.

This is the way.

62 years ago today. The bombing of the 16th Street Baptist Church in Alabama.

Amos 6:4-7. Woe to those with beds of ivory, eating lambs and calves. Those who sing idle songs, drink wine, and anoint themselves with finest oils, and are not grieved over the ruin around them.
They shall be the first into exile.
The word of God according to Amos.

When God began creating ... the earth was complete chaos, ... God said, “Let there be light,” it was. God saw the light was good (from Gen 1:1-4).

Remember that it is in chaos that new things are created. Look for what is good, water it, and tend it, celebrate each small good thing.

This is church.

I'm a Christian. As such I'm in favor of protecting all people from gun violence. Strict training, licensing, and restrictions on capacity. And I believe in the constitution and the right to states to maintain well regulated militias.
Only love overcomes hate. Only light overcomes shadows.

Luke 4:18. Jesus is speaking "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to bring good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to set free those who are oppressed," (NRSVUE)

Jesus told us to feed the hungry, to release the captives, to welcome the stranger.
Seems pretty clear to me.
