This bear was eating berries thirty feet off the ground in a tree just off the Cades Cove Loop in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. A "fun police" park ranger wouldn't let me approach any closer, which was probably a good thing.

I have a neighbor who fires up his pickup truck every morning before 6AM (I know, because I go out at that time to walk our dog) and he leaves for work at about 6:30. Thirty minutes idling in his driveway, regardless of the weather. I don't understand it.

I used to read all the time, books by the desk, by the bedside, on the coffee table. Now, there's a phone linking my subconscious mind to the internet and I can't be bothered to even read an entire social media comment if it's more than fifty words. We're becoming dullards.
