A Dem Congress should pass a law banning anyone who is currently serving with ICE or CBP from future Fed employment.

The Feds should condition all future Fed grants to police depts on blanket refusals to hire ppl who were in ICE/CBP right now.

Sorry to do litmus tests but I want candidates who understand and say out loud that the big tech industry is a hive of evil charlatans who get rich pumping poison into the world

Gotta say, "clearly time to get the elaborate machinery of manufactured bewilderment and sour indignation up and running again" is wonderfully assembled!

This is an incredible essay, and an incredibly well-articulated argument about exactly what is so unnervingly dystopian about these invisibly self-cherishing “both sides” media inventions, and why we all need to divest from them for good.

Worth your time, even if you just like good writing.

One takeaway from this excellent essay is that we can’t let news organizations get away with “critics say” framing anymore. Either name the critic and clearly explain their critique, or just write the biased oped you’re obviously dying to write.

I had a run in with ICE snatching a man out of his car while walking my children to school this morning in NW DC

I asked a neighbor to continue walking my kids to school and I turned back to document and confront the ICE agents.

people hate hearing this but it's 100% true, creating a huge pay gap between political leaders, their staffs, and other elites is a recipe for corruption. of course the flip side of that is taxes on the rich should be jacked way the hell up

Getting new details on this now:

As the arrest unfolded, teachers pleaded with the agents telling them the teacher had a work permit. The agents went into multiple rooms looking for teachers while children were present. One teacher hid with a child in her care while the agents stormed the facility.

Her husband was at Broadview one month and she was never able to talk to him. Not until he was already in Mexico. He had been in Chicago for 20 years. Her husband shared that the numbers of people there were astounding. It just makes me think how many people that are not counted/just disappeared.

He said that the agents would throw food at them to eat. The agents threatened to withhold food for a week and to beat him up if he didn't sign deportation papers. He said he saw others refuse and get beaten/receive no food. He signed because he was afraid.

Her husband told her that detainees at Broadview had to get up at 5am to get in line for one bathroom. He often peed himself. One time he had to wait until 2pm to use the bathroom. You could only use the bathroom once a day. He said the agents would beat you if you used the bathroom on yourself.

Ellis orders that agents wear "conspicuous identification" in two separate places and wear and activate body-worn cameras while engaging in enforcement actions.

Ellis rules that the Trump administration impermissibly prevented the free exercise of religion, in violation of the First Amendment.
Those engaged in prayer have been shot, without warning, with pepper balls and tear gas, Ellis says.

Ellis rejects the DOJ's argument that plaintiffs are not protected by the First Amendment because they've "intermingled themselves with rioters."

"The unlawful activity by a few protesters does not transform a peaceful assembly into an unlawful assembly," Ellis says

Ellis: Federal agents described a number of protestors as "professional agitators" based on their use of whistles, in part.

"Describing neighborhood moms and rapid response groups as professional agitators shows just how out of touch these agents are and how incredible their statements are."

Agents said "hit them" before deploying tear gas, Ellis says, and then they lied about it under oath.

This calls into question their account of everything happening in the Chicago area.

Federal agents tried to claim a flash-bang grenade they fired in Little Village was fireworks thrown by protestors, Ellis says.

Agents also lied about what happened in Albany Park on Oct. 12, Ellis says.

As for the testimony of Border Patrol Chief Patrol Greg Bovino:

Ellis: "Defendant Bovino admitted that he lied about whether a rock hit him before he deployed tear gas in Little Village."

When Bovino threw a second tear gas canister at the crowd, the crowd was running away.
