24.07.2025 11:36 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Out of the Ashlaa': Refugee Language Education in Times of Heartbreak and Failure Wednesday 10 September 2025 14:30-16:00 Alison Phipps, Khawla Badwan, Hyab Yohannes This keynote explores what responsible educational research and teaching look like in times of profound crisis, particularly in the face of war, displacement, and structural violence. Drawing from 15 years of work in language education with displaced and besieged communities- including Gaza, Eritrea, and other conflict zonesβ the presentation introduces a pedagogy of heartbreak. It reflects on the failure of language, education systems, and peace-building frameworks in the face of genocide, trafficking, and scholasticide.
