Oh ya, in a similar boat, read the Alvin Maker and Enderโ€™s games booksโ€ฆthen Saints (which to be honest was a interesting take on Mormons)

I used to live in the same city as him, heโ€™d write rather unhinged opinion pieces in our local paper

Enderโ€™s Game was problematic in a lot of ways beyond the time of its writingโ€ฆ and other OSC stuffโ€ฆgross

As a (somewhat) old man, I think some of it is recommending what spoke to you, itโ€™s not trying to do anything to girlsโ€ฆitโ€™s being absolutely ignorant that there is anyone out there other than yourself (โ€œa normal personโ€)

I am proud both my kids do better

I thought it was pretty well done. People chose the bodies they wanted. Number of the Beast was similar with Libby.

Not saying it makes up for the egregious shit in his earlier books but Id prefer someone wake up late than not at all.

Have you read Time Enough for Love?

It was formative for me to read through his evolution as a person in my teens.

He ended up with transgender as a normal thing in his later books for instance.

Some of that may be it's what they know.

And some of those books are still great!

We're not going to have 2026 elections, are we?

He actually did far better in his later work but yeah, gross.

So I kinda grew up with authors instead of parents. As a white strait middle class kid Peirs Anthony's alien sex fantasy series was a good influence, as was Heinlein's later stuff.

My privileged self never noticed the lack of real women in some books until recently. Cryptomonicon is amazing but ๐Ÿ˜ž

Is there a decent reading list for a wide lens view of proto/ancient history?

I am more interested in pre-1100 BC stuff.

Hoping Dr. P's followers can give some good recommendations. TYIA

Are you getting enough excersize and sunshine? I tend to get groggy if I *don't* do something outdoors to get the blood pumping.

Didn't used to be that way, in my 40's I could read all day and still rest well at night but not so much these days.

Makes me thing Bondi might be scapegoated soon.

I wonder what they'd have to do to get her to turn on him, she does not seem the loyal type.

I do wonder if this is part of why the ultrarich (or otherwise powerful) seem so alienated from the rest of us. You're a high profile scifi writer - just think what it would be like to run a big company or hold high office.

I am glad I do not have any reason for people to pretend who they are to me

I like the list. I'd add
Big Fish
Blues Brothers

Both because they are movies my boys associate with me. I tend to embellish stories and go on missions from god.

Probably not in a Target though.
