The blank space will likely be another brown-painted pedestrian area. Crosswalks are painted when crossing active travel lanes, and the brown paint supersedes the need for crosswalk markings.

01.10.2025 21:08 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0In the bike advocacy world, we always say "paint is not protection", and this is a pretty clear demonstration why!
01.10.2025 17:20 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0In a few weeks, there will be brown "truffle" paint and plastic delineators to indicate that it's a pedestrian area.
Once those are up, cars that park there will be ticketed.
These should be built out as concrete, but the short answer is that costs too much and takes too long.
What do you expect from an outlet that's sponsored byβexcuse me, underwritten byβFord, Nissan, Subaru, and Toyota?

This is very well-intentioned, but a stop sign is just a red-octagon sign instead of a yellow-diamond sign.
Signs don't stop cars, but concrete blocks, raised crosswalks, or curb extensions do.
