Subway expansions would be truly transformative for the city, and must happen.

(not a fan of framing this as an either/or with free buses, but that's something else)

Kudos to the team for a beautiful presentation too!

Way back in the day in Paris, there was vertical stratification (richer people lived on the lower floors, working-class lived in the garrets.)

I knew Dan way, way back when we were both student journalists at Penn. He was a rare bit of Philly realness on campus, and if it weren't for him, I never would've seen the Insectarium.

Remembering the late nights when 34th St went to press, and sending condolences to his family and loved ones.

To @governor.ny.gov's big $ donors, pain and suffering from car crashes is just a part of doing business they want to spend less on.

Billionaire-owned apps should pay for the damage they cause, not crash victims.

I first saw @kylec.bsky.social with his epic take in support of a Denver bike lane. Never thought i would hear that from a local news anchor’s desk!

Glad to see he is keeping up the great work. (and that bike lanes are a remarkable proxy for politics)

'Pedestrianize' the Financial District, Lower Manhattan Council Member Says - Streetsblog New York City Downtown Council Member Chris Marte says the city refuses to launch a $500K downtown pedestrianization study funded by his predecessor.

In terms of transportation, Marte has come out in favor of pedestrianizing the Financial District

The redesign, for reference:

It will be a big improvement at the bridge entrance, but a big missed opportunity to have protected lanes all the way to Chrystie St.

1979 ad for the Bowery Savings Bank with the headline "This city wasn't built by frightened people. And frightened people won't save it" - Joe DiMaggio for The Bowery

Doing some research for a new candidate client, and came across this remarkable ad from 1978.

Why *do* the people with the least faith in New York
have the loudest voices?

Research for this project took me to the basement of the Queens Central Library, where I got to see and handle the mimeographed leaflets and flyers of the dedicated activists of Southeast Queens who fought injustice decades ago.

Proud to have designed a logo for a man who continues that vital work.

It's a mix of partial pedestrianization, mid-block crosswalks and pocket parks.

Just 2 out of the scheme were actually completed:

Map of proposed 'superblock' plan with integrated playgrounds/parks in the Crown Heights section of Brooklyn

My first time seeing the complete (unrealized) plan for IM Pei's Crown Heights superblocks from 1969.

I love how it doesn't just add park space, but threads new off-street connections.

As someone who works with typography every day, this is unambiguously correct.

It's absolutely no surprise that Northern Blvd and 48th St is on this list.

Big-box stores and shopping traffic make it an unfortunate bit of suburbia sandwiched between 2 dense neighborhoods.

An effective brand is like a piece of music, with endless explorations of its expression through performance.

Consistency in applying brand guidelines is building the limits in which genuine artistic creativity can thrive.

Especially for audiences likely seeing your content for the first time...

"Brands that are strictly consistent in their use of things like logos, type, colors, and imagery get such wildly-outsized cultural impact in exchange for relatively modest investment that it’s mind-boggling to me that more organizations don’t insist on following suit."

There's only one stated meeting left before this City Council term ends.

That means we have just 13 days left to pass universal daylighting and save lives.

Call Speaker Adrienne Adams and tell her to bring Intro 1138 to a vote: 212-482-6731
