source people, the best that they can hope is that some company values their project so much that they get hired by that company to work on it full time.
This is the only reason that Linux became a success, if nobody was paying Linus and he had to get a normal job it would have stayed a hobby os.
of people that don't get a dime and and are expected or demanded to deliver updates.
Just check people of very successful projects open source like SDL, Raylib, DearImGui. Hell, look at how much Apple is giving FreeBSD and basically whole MacOS spawned from it.
There's no safeguard for open ..
This is a common misconception, like there's a big difference between what the ethos was meant to be and the reality.
The reality is that open source means that bigger companies can build on top of open source projects with little to no cost.
There's multiple cases of this being the case ..

๐ฑ Thank you so much everyone for receiving our dear Constance so well ๐๐ We couldn't be happier with the critical reception!
If you have 2 minutes to leave us a review on Steam or Metacritic, that would be amazing. Thank you!!

25.11.2025 17:13 โ ๐ 28 ๐ 5 ๐ฌ 2 ๐ 1I personally think that the open source model is broken, it favours big companies.
The only viable alternative I see is sourcefirst.com, which basically means you get access to source but it's not free. If you make a lot of money on top of a solution, you should have to pay for that solution.
interesting new VCS solution that's more p4-like and NOT git-like (thank god)
still haven't watched the entire thing but it looks interesting.
It has gui, cli and server built-in to one small binary without any external dependencies. Just buying a git gui is more expensive than 1 seat.
If we want cool stuff we need to provide means for people to make a living doing them.
That being said, for those who want, a cloud version is planned.
It's paid based on revenue, so if you don't pass the 500k / year it's free.
The price is accessible. It's permanent licenses, so you don't actually need to renew each year.
It gives you the power of controlling who owns your data, and it has an ultra simple migration process.
Hey, there's a section in the demo I presented on the Wookash podcast that goes over branching / merging youtu.be/Te2gZc_mOMA?...
27.11.2025 16:49 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0The reason for it was because at the time of starting it I wanted a performance driven, multi-plaform, immediate mode UI system, and DearImGui was the best option that existed, even though their focus is debug tools.
27.11.2025 16:41 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Hey, I'm the developer behind it. If you're interested in a lengthy explanation, I had an interview on Wookash podcast

Git comparison ~25m, Perforce ~1h11m. Extensive demo ~1h29m.
If you have any questions let me know :)
Ark VCS looks interesting - a version control system specifically for games. It looks and feels a lot like P4, and not much like Git, so I like it already.

Had the immense pleasure being interviewed by @gameengineering.bsky.social !
It was great to be able to talk about version control systems, go into why decentralization is a mistake for 99% of developers, and also showcase a why Ark VCS is better! :-]

Ark 0.10.0 was released, and it brings Tags.
I also decided to jump to the final form of the licensing model:
- Indie: free up to $500K funding / annual revenue
- Business: perpetual license w/ 1y of upgrades and price per seat

Been using ark-vcs.com for a few weeks now. Not done anything advanced, not even branches. But it seems like a better version of Perforce.
Hopefully it gets more users and more active development.
I'm happy to not be using git for hobby stuff anymore.

Hey Whalestork fans we are 3 review away of reaching 150 reviews! A very short review is enough and really helps miniscule indie developers like us!
To those who already left one, you are amazing!
Hello Bluesky! I'm developing Ark, a version control system with games in mind, for people looking for an alternative to perforce and git.
Last month Ark was showcased at Handmade Seattle Conference. Here's the video of that demo.
