My son only now seems to be being taught about syllables in Yr2, is this the norm? Clinically, I encountered so many KS2 children who had poor syllable awareness, but it didn't really seem to be on the radar for school

Phonological awareness is hugely important for speech, vocabulary, reading and spelling. All children should have robust syllable and phoneme level skills before they start phonics learning. Free assessment, intervention, stimulus pictures here research.ncl.ac.uk/phonological...
