Really, truly amazing that OpenAI wants us to believe that they are worth a trillion dollars but also they are so desperate for revenue that they created an infinite SlopTok app that opens them up to a billion lawsuits just so that they can maybe someday make it even worse by filling it with ads.

AI cannot do library cataloguing. It's way too much of an art than a science. Every librarian catalogue differently. No humans are involved in this, which means in theory we as librarians now have to check every new MARC records we get. Which is impossible.

2. Shop Early: Like now. Stores get busier & busier as we get closer to the holidays which means it gets harder to make recommendations & give great customer service which sells more books! Also, right now, you could talk to me for, like, 1/2 hour & finish all your book shopping!...

4. Return Your Gift Cards Clean: Like credit card fees, buying gift cards is a cost of doing business at all, but, the more we can reduce that cost, the more sustainable we are. So make sure to bring your gift cards back in a state that we can reuse them. (No permanent marker please!)...

7. Share Links to the Store: If you are talking about a book online include a link to it on your favorite bookstore's website. Even if it doesn't lead to a sale, it still tells people about the store AND that you like it, which will be meaningful to your community...

6. Tell Friends & Family to Buy From Us: Don't just say "I want This Book" say "I want This Book from Porter Square Books" or your local indie. Maybe it sends the sale to us, maybe it doesn't but it still helps spread the word about the store. Which reminds me...

1. Pay in Cash: Credit card processing fees knock a couple % points off the profit margin and there's not a whole lot stores can do to make that back. But cash is free! (Debit where you put in your PIN isn't bad either.) So stop at the bank on your way to the bookstore...

I'd wondered about this. Bookstores need foot traffic & an illegal military occupation will kill foot traffic. Send them some orders AND THEN BE PATIENT! Orders take time to fulfill, esp when there's a surge. So if you send them a complainy check in email after 2 weeks I will haunt you.

Flew home from DC, went walking hours later and saw this beautiful phenomenon, 😃🌅!

According to a bit of research, these are anticrepuscular rays. Behind me (due west), the sun was setting behind some clouds. These are the mirroring of those rays.
