Anna is (wrong about Darcy but) right about this. We love creative adaptations that show they get the original. That's not what this is.

I see your point, Kate (and ditto geometry, but love calculus!), but my take is that we should also allow for the pleasures of math. The "I'm not good at math" crap starts very young with girls, and I suspect a lot of it comes down to their belief that math can't and won't be pleasurable.

I don't demand polish but woe be unto you if your talk runs long.

Those are interesting, but for undergrads who aren't already Janeites, asking them to put the work in with an unfinished novelette is a heavy lift. Lady Susan is finished and it's brat.

Also Love and Friendship is a totally decent adaptation.
